Session 2

Overview

A couple weeks have passed since the events of the Anomaly. The kids are in trouble, though safe, and Osiris Labs has questions for Jack Carter and Charlotte Horner. While details of the Old Bunker have yet to be divulged, activity spikes around town as containment teams are seen heading out across the river in search of something.

Things take a turn for the worse as teams are reported missing, and more sightings of ghosts and other stranger things happen on the outskirts of town.

In-character Summary

(A document written by Abigail covering recent events)

The initial members of the second bunker expedition were M.Ellis, M.Anderson, L.Cole-Ward, A.Ackerman, and J.Jenkins. An initial survey of the area found no unusual activity, notably missing the previous visual and auditory phenomena, which have been referred to as "ghosts".

(N.B. These ghosts appear to be more accurately described as a technological phenomena, rather than spiritual. This shows the importance of applying rigorous nomenclative standards when categorizing yet-unexplained phenomena.)

Soon after entering the bunker, the group was joined by R.Hernández Jr, who informed the group that he knew an individual residing within one of the rooms. Upon following RHJ, the group encountered a juvenile Sasquatch residing in the bunker, an individual who goes by the name of "Barnabus Rogelim". According to RHJ, he and B.Rogelim would regularly work together on schoolwork. The room also contained a wide hole in the wall connected to a network of tunnels leading outside the bunker.

During this period of the investigation, C.Horner arrived, along with the robotic unit which refers to itself as "Rust Bucket". CH informed the group that she was working with a pair of government agents who were headed to the group's location in order to attempt to apprehend R.Bucket (In a manner indicating that she aimed to act as a saboteur and prevent this).  BR suggested that the group could exit through the tunnels to another secure location he knew of, and possibly connect with his parents.

(N.B. BR and his parents regularly mentioned the difficulties faced by their family. It appears that sasquatches face numerous threats in the modern world, such as attacks by predators and prejudice from "city folk" [direct quotation]. While the solid confirmation of the existence of this amazing group of close relatives to homo sapiens is a significant find from a scientific perspective, let none of us forget the humanitarian issues here, or the hardships faced by sasquatch, hardships which the system must be held accountable for failing to address, in addition to holding them accountable for their broader pattern of lies and deception.)

The group headed through several miles of underground mining tunnels, eventually emerging at an outdoor location in the wilderness beyond town. CH departed the group, presumably to meet up with the agents she knew were hunting for RB. Eventually, BR's parents returned. They were initially somewhat suspicious of the large group accompanying their son, but quickly came to accept them.

(N.B. Observed behavior of sasquatches includes full mastery of at least one human language, the capacity to understand and discuss advanced scientific concepts, the use of complex tools and clothing, food preservation through dehydration, and the ceremonial burial of the dead. This appears to confirm the common cryptozoolgical hypothesis that sasquatch possess intelligence equal to or greater than humans.)

From discussion, the group learned that their family had been in the area of Normal for some time. Joint investigation between AA and ME uncovered that older maps of the area confirm this, referring to the location as the "Old Rogelim Mineshaft". Even more notable is that further investigation shows that three specific families have a history in the area with different mineshafts - Rogelim, Ward, and Hernandez. This contradicts the commonly accepted history that Rafael Hernández Sr., founder of Osiris labs, was believed to be new to the area when the labs were established.

(Author's note: This is our most significant lead. What are they hiding from us here? If Osiris labs feels the need to rewrite history and deceive the public, what is the reason for that? What do they need to cover up? Pull on this string hard enough, and it will unravel. This does, however, dramatically increase the stakes of the investigation. It is entirely unclear who may be in on the conspiracy. Are the federal agents involved in this case under the sway of whoever is hiding the truth here?)

A short time later, the group encountered a massive creature with distinctly crustacean characteristics and anatomy. The creature was referred to as a "monarch" by the agents. The group attempted to subdue the creature, joined in this task by CH, who had returned with the aforementioned federal agents.

MA was able to entirely shear off the protective carapace of the creature, leaving it exposed to attack. CH, ME, and one of the agents utilized advanced weaponry to fire on the creature. G.Amos also arrived at the behest of LCW and was able to provide support through suppressive fire. A notable number of insects also began swarming around the creature. (The cause of this is still under investigation.) One of the agents displayed an extraordiary ability, changing her hands to crustacean claws with which to attack the creature. RB joined the assault on the creature, both by hurling logs and entering into close combat.

In return, the creature was a significant danger. Its exceptional strength was able to significantly injure both one of the agents and MA, launching them distances of 50 to 100 feet. It was able to spray a liquid substance which appeared to cause immediate carcinization of exposed flesh, infecting CH and removing the use of one of her arms. Most of the others were able to hide behind shell fragments and avoid most of the harmful substance.

Working together, the group was finally able to incapacitate and kill the creature, with RB dealing the final blow. The pair of agents helped to heal anyone affected by the creature. They also implied that (possibly as repayment for helping to fight the creature) they would (only temporarily) halt their mission to find and apprehend RB. They left shortly after giving a warning to the group that it would be in their best interest not to investigate further.

(Author's note: Ha, as if we were simple babies who could be cowed so easily!)
