Overview
The islands furthest east in the Asperdi-Duxchan chain are the Spindrifts, some 100 leagues east of the Medegian coast. Exact information is not available, as neither the Sea Barons nor the Duxchan captains have reponed upon them - both groups likely desiring to expand their holdings by acquiring these islands. There are tales that numerous elves dwell in the Spindrifts, and the reason that neither seafaring nation reports anything about them is because these elves capture and imprison any sailor so bold as to enter their domain.
The Spindrifts are known to be divided into two parts, the northern islands of the high elves, and the single southern Lendore Isle. The three northern islands are overseen by five elven wizards supported by numerous elven lords and half-elven clergy. Ships from the Lordship of the Isles as well as from the Sea Barons who have ventured there have yet to return. There are no reported towns or villages in the northern islands and seclusion is all these demihumans seem to require.
Lendore Isle, on the other hand, has much trade with the continent and pays, through the Council of Seven of Lo Reltarma, a liberal sum to both the Lordship of the Isles and the Sea Barons to pass without incident. This immunity has been ignored on occasion by an enterprising pirate who is then later exterminated - whether by an agent of the Council or by someone else is unknown. The humans of Lendore Isle pray almost exclusively to the ancient gods of the Suloise, taking after the Arch-Mage who founded its civilization.
The Spindrifts — Isles Shrouded in Mystery
This group of islands has housed from time immemorial the strongholds of high-elven wizards and lords. They had little contact with humans until the arrival of the legendary Archmage, Lendore, who brought his fellowship out from the lands of the Suel Imperium in anticipation of the Invoked Devastation. Fleeing the impending disaster, the wizard and his band journeyed to the easternmost shores of Oerik, then further still, until they came at last to the Spindrift Isles. The Invoked Devastation occurred, as Lendore knew it must, but it was followed by a catastrophe he had not foreseen: the Rain of Colorless Fire and the destruction of the empire.
In the years that followed, the wizard and his followers lived in peace with the elves, while elsewhere in the Flanaess, the Suloise were being pushed out of habitable lands by the conquering Oerid. In time, Lendore persuaded the elves to cede him the southern island, that he might make a refuge of it for his followers and kin. Only a few families of Suel made this their home while Lendore ruled, but in the years after his passing, their population slowly grew. Lo Reltarma became the capital of the island, and its ruling Council of Seven maintained close ties with the high elves’ Council of Five in the northern islands.
For centuries the Spindrift Isles have maintained their independence from all foreign powers, both through strength and through cunning. The peoples of the northern and southern isles do not freely mix, but both communities recognize the benefits of unity in opposition to the warlike Aerdi and the piratical Suel of the southern islands. Whenever seriously threatened by their rapacious neighbors, the heirs of Lendore remember his promise of an aerial sanctuary, and gather at the Gate of Glass outside Lo Reltarma. One of Lendore’s last prophecies had promised his appearance there. In time, the Gate of Glass has become something of a shrine that Lendorians visit in times of crisis, or in memory of crises averted, and the citizens of Lo Reltarma gather here on the last day of each year to celebrate their ancestor’s foresight.
