Session 1 - Attack at Port Nyanzaru

1493-03-22 - Hour 2 AM - D&D Journal

Session Date: 2021-08-28

The PCs enters Liara Portyr, an assassin and a necromancer who attack the party. In the fight, Liara’s helmet is heated by Arveene and it puts a horrible scar above her hairline across her nose and left eye down to her chin. 

It ends with the necromancer grabbing Liara and dimension doors them out of there. The assassin is killed by the necromancer.

While searching they recover:

- vial of unidentifiable poison (plant-based) Poison - Ordained

- Two arrows with arrowheads made from human bone

- Liara’s helmet

- a Note to Liara Portyr

Maerwynn Hilless and her two body guards show up shorty after. 

She takes the PCs to an inn where they eat and get a long rest. 

11 AM

The PCs, with the help of Maerwynn Hilless, attemp to see if either bodyguard is the “spy” mentioned in the letter. They give info to each one about their whereabouts to see if it leads to trouble. Nothing happens at the arena. At the tavern the PCs are attacked by Chultans for bringing in a tiefling and a tabaxi. The 3 Chultans are killed and nothing is determined about either bodyguard.

5 PM

The PCs go to a party held by the merchant princes. Before, Syndra Silvane gives them a few notes about the merchant princes and promises to look into Maerwynn Hilless who is also under suspicion. While there they learn:

- Liara Portyr, aside from working with Flaming Fist, was in league with pirates for a cut of what they stole. When it came to light she was cut off from the Flaming Fists and her family. 

- Wakanga (male Chultan human mage) will help the party

- Jessamine (female Chultan human assassin) has seen the poison before; it’s a new strain that has shown up more & more over time.

- Zhanthi (female Chultan human noble) has seen the white painted armor before; heard story of similar group killing and cannibalizing a family.

- Ekene (female Chultan human gladiator) has seen bone weapons including bone daggers; wants Queen M (Mwaxanare) in power if certain MPs are removed and others stay

- Ifan(Male Chultan human noble) wants to use the PCs to further his ends; tells PCs Grandfather Zitembe was killed and possibly poisoned

- Kwayothe (Female Chultan human priest) lived a past of poverty she wants no one to know about & hates him and Zhanthi (both nobles)
