Life After "The Breaking"
200 years ago, the universe was torn apart by Ygorl. All planes of existence now reside on one single plane, now known as "Prime".
Virages, large Monstrosities of chaos and destruction, now roam the land as they appear to be the single greatest threat to humanoids. As such, humanoid cities are tightly packed in large circles, usually with at least 2 layers. Reliant on a new crystal called Selenite for power, the cities range widely in quality of life and race diversity. The wild lands in between the cities is vast and dangerous as beast and dinosaurs roam the lands. Airships and the Lightning Rail are now the safest form of travel between cities.
Dragons all now have the shapeshifter ability. Due to Virages on the plane, Most Chromatic Dragons have chosen to meld into society, but for some, old habits and all. Due to the chaos magic that flooded the world, new dragons (and Dragonborn) have emerged, the Gem Dragons.
Most intelligent species have come to live in the protected cities. Goblins, giants, kobold, and others that where previously solitary, now intermingle. Not to say that there aren’t still primal tribes in the world, but they are few.
New material grew out the chaos waves called Mana Crystals, which can be charged with Arcane energy to act as a battery or power source. The larger the crystal, the more power it can store.
Necrotech has been created by Professor Abadier. It powers an entire race of Warforged using Necromancy as the base power source. NecroTech has been at the fore-front of a movement to prove that Necromancy is not inherently evil and can benefit society. While most governments have approved the use of Necromancy magic, magic that would cause physical harm or raise the dead is still illegal.
Richard Remaud, a very wealthy anti-Necromancy leader, has recently released a new company called Mana Corporation. This company has created a way to use the natural power of elements to power a new race of Warforged called "Mechanicals". These Mechanicals have become a favorite in the northern regions of Khoravaire as they use Mana-infused Crystals and Cortosis metals.
Acquisitions Incorporated:
With most governments destroyed and military’s without many resources, “Adventurers Guilds” started popping up everywhere, most protecting surviving cities in exchange for goods and services. Over time as population recovered, cities grew larger and the guilds became mercenaries. Poppy saw that the need for adventuring parties was still high as the world was full of unique monsters and problems that weren’t there pre-Breaking, so she incorporated, began buying guilds and hiring their members out to various cities and individuals. Accusations Incorporated was born. Acquisitions Incorporated employees serve many roles but all have a license to operate in specific regions and are granted limited law immunities and special privileges depending on contract needs.
