020: Defendant Lobby No. 1

PREVIOUS: 019: Full Moon

For Lucya, at least, the rest of the night passes uneventfully. She's a little worried when Jagal doesn't show up for breakfast in the morning, but there's not much time left before the trial-- she decides to visit Togan at his "cell" in the Sunflower Inn, and hope she runs into Jagal on the way.

Freida's grinding some Blackholly beans behind the counter.

FREIDA: "G'mornin', lassie! Which a yer wee men are ye lookin' for?"

LUCYA: "Eh, um, Togan, but... Have ye seen Jagal?"

FREIDA: "Not yet this mornin'... He didnae stay with yer folks last night?"

FREIDA: "Rhoddri's just gone tae fetch Togan, though, the poor laddie. I'm sure he'll be glad t'see ye! Want some coffee?"

LUCYA: "Nay, thank ye ma'am."

Lucya hops up onto a barstool and waits.

It's not terribly long before she has more company, but it isn't Jagal. Coming lightly down the stairs—at least, more lightly than her companion—is a short-haired someone with some passing resemblance to Freida. More noticeable is the scar across her nose and, of course, the yellow cat-ear hairband perched on her head.

RHODDRI: "Gooood meowrning, everyone!"

TOGAN: "Better morning for some than others, I'd say..."

TOGAN: "Oh! Lucya!"

LUCYA: "Good morning...!"

Lucya nods politely at Rhoddri, and steps past her to kneel down beside Togan.

LUCYA: "Auh, ye didnae sleep a wink, did ye?"

TOGAN: "No, not really... Ah, but-- it wasn't your fault, Ms. Freida! Or yours, Mx. Rhoddri..."

FREIDA: "Ha! Come by sometime when yer not on house arrest, aye, sweet pea?"

RHODDRI: "Of course, of course."

Rhoddri gives Togan a little nudge.

RHODDRI: "See, it's a better morning for ye now, isn't it? And it oughtae look up more soon enough."

LUCYA: "Aye, yer ginnae be alright, Togan!"

Togan smiles, just a little.

TOGAN: "If you say so... D-did you figure out what happened?"

LUCYA: "Nay, not exactly, but we certainly know enough tae prove it wasn't you."

JAGAL: "Eh, depends on the jury, really, but hey, we'll see."

Jagal sips at a mug of coffee as he leans back in his seat.

RHODDRI: "Myah?!"

TOGAN: "Eep!"

Already a bundle of nerves, Togan yelps and hides behind Lucya before he can recognize the voice.

LUCYA: "Auh! Look what ye've done!"

FREIDA: "Aye leave the poor laddie alone-- but that was a good 'un! Ahahaha!"

RHODDRI: (sighing as she shakes it off) "Let's nae encourage this right now...?"

Jagal very barely manages not to spit any drink out as he joins the laugh.

JAGAL: "Hey, we scare him enough beforehand, he won't have the energy to worry at the trial, yeah? Sounds like a favor to me."

LUCYA: "That's nae how it works! Yer horrible!!"

TOGAN: "I-I'm okay, Lucya, please don't fight..."

LUCYA: "Hmph..."

FREIDA: "Who's on th' jury anyway? They didnae come t'me, but I guess I'm a witness, technically..."

Jagal just keeps on laughing at Lucya's reaction. The kick seems to wear off soon after, though. Killjoys.

Rhoddri nods in approval at the defusing.

RHODDRI: "Nyah, lessee... There was Delkaph for sure—he's none too happy about it—and either Granny or Pendry—I dinnae quite remember how that got sorted out. Oh, and there was that new fella, aye... The tobacco farmer?"

Rhoddri tilts her head to one side, thinking.

FREIDA: "Ohh aye, Columb-- ye know, he's always in here talkin' tae me about his wife, but I've never seen her once! Odd guy!"

FREIDA: "But I'm sure Duncan knows what he's doin'. Delkaph's a good laddie, too."

LUCYA: "Humm, alright..."

Lucya frets over Togan a bit, conspicuously putting herself between him and her misbehaving partner. Once she's sure he'll be alright until the trial, she lets Rhoddri lead him off and turns back to Jagal.

LUCYA: "...Did ye eat some breakfast?"

Jagal sits back, equal parts amused and scoffy, at Lucya once again babying everyone she comes across. He gives Togan a blasé little wave at their exit.

At the question, Jagal blinks, taking a hot second to recognize the word and/or concept of breakfast. Apparently he really needs this coffee.

JAGAL: (sipping) "Uh—yeah, probably."

LUCYA: "Probably??"

Her frown softens.

LUCYA: "I think Ma's still got some leftover muffins, if ye hurry..."

Jagal pauses, like this might be some sort of trick, but decides it's not like he's doing anything important here, anyway.

JAGAL: "Worth a shot."

Jagal hops off his seat and dashes outside without further ado.

LUCYA: "But what did ye-- last night-- bah!"

It occurs to Lucya too late that she asked her questions in the wrong order.

FREIDA: "Are ye sure ye'll be alright, lassie?"

Freida frowns from behind the counter.

LUCYA: "Me? Aye! Togan didnae do it, and that's that, so, it'll be alright in the end..."

FREIDA: "...Well, here's hoping it'll be that simple."

She tips her 8:30am glass of wine.
