St. Ephrem (Light/Arcana) – also known as The Harp of the Spirit, was the writer of over 400 hymns, some of which are still sung today. Once while he was traveling he was set upon by bandits, and in an attempt to survive, he proceeded to perform one of his hymns. The bandit leader was so moved by the performance that he converted on the spot and let St. Ephrem on his way.
The Basilica of St. Ephrem is dedicated to his memory, and his remains are interred there.
