Wherever Nerimae came from, and wherever she's planning on going, no-one knows. She's simply here for a fun time, for as long as they'll have her. And she's not a pirate, she'll tell you! She may have been at one point, but she's left that life behind, she swears on her mother's grave.
But the thing is with pirates, they're hardly a truthful sort. And Nerimae can spin tales just as easily as she can breathe. She's a convincing little bard, that's for sure. Or is she a cleric? She's certainly faithful to a fault, to some sort of entity of the sea. Which entity she's not saying - all who have asked have been answered with naught more than a wink and a smile.
Truth be told, Nerimae seems to be the sort of adventurer who is running from her past - but truth be told as well, that's a common backstory for many a pirate. Those who take to the sea often wish to lead lives that cannot be found on land, after all. And those who wish to run will find no better adventure than the ones found at the sea's mercy.
Now if only the ships that she'd get on would stop having this pesky habit of sinking - sure, she washes up just fine with her life perfectly in tact, but on a ship, the crews might as well be family. She'd really like to be able to get attached to the friends she keeps making, is that too much to ask?
If her goddess is behind this, then she's already paid her dues - what more could she want?
