Gargoyles are winged humanoids made of living stone. They are known throughout Khorvaire for sitting atop stone spires, completely inert and indistinguishable from genuine statues, until such time as they decide to move. Despite their weight, they are capable of flight, and at decent speeds too. Many of them are currently situated in Droaam, but they are also common in Sharn, the Shadow Marches, Xen'drik, and there is even a community of gargoyles in Thrane.
Their origin is up for debate, but most scholars seem to agree that gargoyles are native to Eberron. Some believe that they could have been a creation of the Daelkyr Orlassk, and records recovered from the Citadel of the Closed Circle indicate that Orlassk resides within an enormous gargoyle fortress. Gargoyles are not, however, aberrations, like most of the creations of the daelkyr, and so it is possible that this is not the case.
Within Droaam, most of the gargoyles prefer to reside in and around Cazhaak Draal amongst the medusas, but they can be found almost anywhere within the barrens. In particular, the warlord Cairngorm is a gargoyle and rules over Grimstone Keep. For the most part, gargoyles are solitary and their population is relatively small, so they've never really formed a culture of their own. Within Droaam, most gargoyles follow the Cazhaak Creed.
Wingwyrds
Within Thrane, another species of gargoyle branched off from the main group. Called Wingwyrds, these gargoyles have an innate connection to the Silver Flame that seems hereditary, much like the Masvirik'uala. They can be found throughout Thrane, perched atop temples to the Silver Flame, and occasionally carrying messages between them.Wingwyrds are a very social creature, contrasting the solitary nature of their ancestors. They are very communicative, and they love to engage in debates on philosophy and politics.
