What began as a refugee camp has evolved into a struggling town hosting thousands of Cyran refugees. Prince Oargev holds court in New Cyre, considering himself a king in exile. Though resources are scarce, New Cyre remains a Symbol of hope for many refugees. It’s also a last stop for those determined to explore The Mournland.
Shortly after New Cyre started to grow, the Dragonmarked Houses started to set up shop, funneling money and other materials into the settlement to get themselves established.
There is a Golden Dragon Inn run by Corby d'Ghallanda in the town center.
House Jorasco runs a clinic out of a series of large field tents, which is run by Thara d'Jorasco. As House Jorasco has a strict policy against healing for free, officially the cost of all treatment comes out of Prince Oargev's coffers, though Thara is sympathetic to the Cyrans and does more than she strictly should according to the rules of the house.
House Orien maintains an outpost in the center, and is also responsible for the material deliveries to the settlement. House Orien plays an important role in allowing the refugees to maintain contact with their families who spread throughout the Five Nations following the Mourning. Further than that, New Cyre sits on the intersection of two main trade roads, so Orien caravans often stop in the city whilst travelling to or from Kennrun, Sterngate and Starilaskur.
The Dragonmarked houses aren't the only ones providing services in New Cyre. There are several small businesses being run out of people's tents.
Mishann's Memory is a cheaper tavern and inn than the Golden Dragon Inn run by House Ghallanda. It's run by an old half-orc named Muskum. People don't come to Mishann's Memory for the food or drink, which is nothing special, but for the atmosphere. There are recovered pieces of art and other novelties from the Mournland scattered around the inn, and if you can't afford your drink, Muskum will gladly trade you a token of lost Cyre for it.
Siebold acts as New Cyre's handyman, and can be relied upon to fix almost anything, providing you can tolerate his grumpy exterior. He sometimes operates a forge out of his tent, but the infrequent fires have led to others moving their tents away from his, which isolates the old goblin somewhat.
For general goods, the mysterious Honest Harold can be relied upon to get what you need, though no one is sure exactly where he gets his goods from. He has a strange knack for having exactly what people need. Like everyone else, he lives in a tent, but he carries his whole store around on his person, doing business through the camp.
Short on Time, a clock makers run by Beezlebop is a bit of a novelty, and for the most part the people of New Cyre aren't really bothered with telling the time. That said, Beezlebop creates intricate clockwork machines that keep the settlement's children entertained. Often nearby is Lorem, a florist and herbalist who is best friends with the inventive gnome.
New Cyre lacks any form of church, with most people maintaining small shrines in their tents to whatever faith they believe in. For the Sovereigns, many look to Iona Perch for guidance. She's somewhat of a religious leader in the tent city, and most days allows the general public access to her own shrines to the Host.
