Located in Zilargo's southeasternmost port city of Korranberg, the Library of Korranberg is the greatest repository of general knowledge in Khorvaire (and perhaps in Eberron as a whole). In addition to serving as a resource for scholars and explorers, the library often funds expeditions to study ancient cultures or unexplored lands.
The Zil Gnomes are an inquisitive people, with an uparalleled thirst for knowledge of all kinds, and it was this thirst for knowledge that gave birth to the Library of Korranberg. Thousands of years ago, the loremaster Dorius Alyre ir'Korran became obsessed with a theory that the Sovereign Host were in fact ascended dragons, much like the modern Church of the Wyrm Ascendant asserts. Dorius swore that he would amass enough knowledge and information that he would surpass Aureon and ascend to take the god's place. He founded the Library of Korranberg, with significant financial backing from the Korran family, as the idea was intriguing even to those who didn't support or believe Dorius's theories on the Sovereign Host.
Even after Dorius's death, the library of Korranberg remained and continued to grow. With the rise of the Kingdom of Galifar, people from across Khorvaire came to study at the lbirary and the colleges connected to it, and it still plays a significant role in Khorvaire's economy, funding many fo the expeditions to further the search for knowledge (and not just expeditions into ancient civilisations like Morgrave University, but generally funding scientific research.)
The Library is a source of pride for the citizens of Korranberg, and every citizen (whether they are a gnome or not) has the option of a free education at the Library in exchange for four years of service to the library. This is seen as an act of patriotism and a valuable life experience, and many of those who study at the library continue their service into entire careers, continuing to work as lecturers, researchers or other important roles in the long term.
There are eight colleges associated with the library, each dedicated to a particular field of study. These colleges maintain the archives, the vast vaults of knowledge accumulated since the library's founding over three thousand years ago. The library is managed by a council of the doyens of each of these colleges, headed by a member of the Korran family, currently Alina Alrene ir'Korran.
The library is based in Korranberg, but it maintains facilities in the capital cities of every nation in Khorvaire. As most of the information in the library is stored in extradimensional spaces, it means that such information can actually be accessed from any of these facilities and one needn't travel all the way to Korranberg to make use of its vaults. The physical library itself in Korranberg is also full of these extradimensional spaces, making it much larger on the inside than it appears (and it already appears to be massive.)
