Lathon Halpum is the lath of the largest tribe in the Talenta Plains, the Abramam. In his youth, Halpum was a battle-rider who led halfling warbands against Cyre, Karrnath and Valenar, who were incredibly destructive presences in the plains.
Some time after Halpum was elected as the lath of the Abramam, the many tribes of the Talenta Plains elected him as their lathon, granting him the power to speak with the voice of all the tribes, united. He used this authority and trust to win recognition for the plains in the Treaty of Thronehold as it's own sovereign nation. For this reason, many consider Halpum to be the father of the plains.
Following the end of the war and the ratification of the Treaty of Thronehold, Halpum attempted to step down as lathon, but the many peoples of the Talenta Plains continue to refer to him with the honorific, and he has the deep respect of all denizens of the plains.
His current bonded dinosaur is a Bladetooth (Allosaurus) named Reka. Bladetooth's are rarely tamed in the plains, they are far larger than most halflings would be comfortable riding and they are dangerous, but Halpum managed it anyway.
When the Daughters of Sora Kell sent an invitation to Gatherhold to attend the Droaam Summit, Halpum once again took on the role of negotiator for the tribes. He feels a kinship to the people of Droaam, who are treated poorly because their way of life is alien to the Five Nations, and realises that things could have been very similar for the plains if things had gone differently.
