Samyr Kes was one of the founding members of the Church of the Silver Flame, and an adventuring companion to Tira Miron
On the night before her final battle with Bel Shalor, Tira gathered her companions together to discuss and outline her vision for the Church of the Silver Flame. Most of her words were preserved in records kept in Flamekeep, and the people she told formed the foundation of the faith.
Officially, Samyr was killed by an agent of Bel Shalor during the final confrontation, whilst he was protecting the families of Tira and Maliah. This lack of involvement in the church has meant that he has largely faded from memory.
The truth, however, is that Tira took the Samyr aside on the night before the battle with Bel Shalor. Samyr wanted to fight at Tira's side, but she ordered him to stay back. She told him she could bind the fiend, but she couldn't destroy it, and binding it would kill her. The binding wouldn't last forever, and there would be those who heard the overlord's whispers. She wept as she detailed what she needed him to do, that he would need to let her die, fake his death, and live in secret, guiding the church from the shadows. He would need to be watchful, save those who could be saved, and destroy those who could not.
Today, Samyr Kes is the leader of Miron's Tears, an organisation he named after the tears Tira shed as she detailed his mission. He is ancient, even by elven standards, sustained beyond his natural lifespan by his connection to Jaeinshar, the Golden Serpent. Jaeinshar's powers allow him to fog the mind, and so Samyr remains in Flamekeep to this day, living in the Cathedral of the Flame and walking among the priests. None note his passing.
