Cyrans caused the Mourning

Newspaper Article

An article in the Voice of Karrnath, dated 20 Olarune, 998 YK.

A new theory circulating through the war rooms of every nation in Khorvaire claims that it was in fact the Cyran government that caused the cataclysm on this date 4 years ago, the Mourning. An anonymous source divulged to us that it is their belief that the government of Cyre caused the Mourning, sacrificing the lives of millions of their own people, as a desperate gambit to attempt to pull back victory from a war they were undoubtedly losing.

There are layers to this story, and we hope to cover them in detail here so that you, dear reader, can make an informed decision about whether or not you believe this claim.

One reason it is stated that the Cyrans caused this disaster was to cause an end to the hostilities, something they undoubtedly achieved. The magical cataclysm stole everyone's taste for battle, even chilling the blood of mighty Karrnath! None fought harder for peace than our own Kaius III, so effective was this psychological weapon. None could say that Cyre lost the war, because nobody could be said to have won the war.

Furthermore, the disaster succeeded in another stated goal of Queen Dannel's: every nation in Khorvaire now houses populations of Cyran "refugees". People still loyal to their destroyed nation, lying in wait for orders from their queen, or perhaps their prince in exile, Oargev ir'Wynarn? Breland has been duped by this deception more fully than any other nation in Khorvaire, and it will come back to bite them when the Cyrans finally get the order and turn feral on their would be saviours and caretakers.

How many Cyrans do you know who survived the disaster? Have any of you ever noticed that most of them were soldiers, many also magical capable? Does it not concern any of the rulers of Khorvaire that we have unilaterally allowed enemy spellcasters into our cities, and into our homes?

This is a second disaster waiting to happen, and who is to say that this time it'll be limited to the borders of Cyre?

Do you think this theory has merit? We're unsure, ourselves. Stay safe out there, folks.
