Mror Holds embrace abominations

Newspaper Article

An article in the Voice of Karrnath, dated 28 Dravago, 998 YK

It's been over seventy years since the Iron Council declared the Mror Holds' independence from Karrnath. King Kaius II was newly seated on the steel throne, and did not yet have the power, influence or resolve to bring the dwarf lords to heel. We now see the results of that folly, and it is horrifying. Without the firm, controlling hand of Karrnath to guide them and keep them righteous, the dwarves have embraced foul powers.

Just look to Lord Malus Soldorak, seen in Korth last week for trade negotiations. His breastplate was forged from chitin and muscle, and seemed to pulse with its own heartbeat as if alive. A guard present at the event told our reporters that the dwarf's axe moaned when the blade came close to him, as if the weapon hungered to taste his flesh. This is what the dwarves do with our mercy and forbearance, align themselves with these otherworldly monsters. Who knows what horrors they're crafting, or breeding, in their mountain hall?

The dwarves claim that this is a vital weapon in their war with their Realm Below, that they need the power these vile creations give them to fight off the abominations that come from below them. How often do our stories cover similar scenarios, and how often does embracing the power of the enemy end up working out for the heroes of the story? The dwarves don't need to venture into this Realm Below, why don't they just plug up their holes and let what evil rests beneath their halls lie?

We, the good people of Karrnath, cannot and should not stand by and let this vileness continue. For the good of our nation, and indeed all of Khorvaire, we call on all true Karrns to demand that King Kaius III and Regent Moranna unleash our full might on the Mror Holds and cleanse the land of this horror. What the dwarves are doing has the potential to threaten all of the Five Nations, and it is our duty, to ourselves and our neighbours to the south and west, to intervene. It's for their own good.
