An article in the Voice of Aundair, dated 8th Nymm, 998 YK.
A convoy of caravans carrying food and much needed healers to the village of Salanoux, on the northwest border of Aundair, was destroyed less than a mile from its destination last week. The Aundairian military is blaming this attack on a group of guerilla forces calling themselves the Eldeen Wolves, who in turn stated that the Aundairian army attacked and destroyed it's own caravan.
The convoy consisted of twelve wagons, eight of which carried food, with the remaining wagons carrying medical supplies. As of the publication of this article, no survivors have been found, nor are there any eye witnesses to the attack. The wagons were simply discovered ransacked, with nothing but blood on the soil to tell of what had happened.
Lord Egan ir'Ransaldrie, who organised the convoy in response to pleas for assistance said he was heartbroken at the loss, both for the people who sorely needed the aide, and the people that were lost in the attack. He stated that the convoy did have a contingent of guards with it, but they were flying a plain blue flag, understood in western Khorvaire to indicate noncombatant status.
Is our government going to stand for this blatant attack on our people? Not only have these beasts directly killed a great number of our own fine citizens, their actions have indirectly worsened the hardship felt by a village still recovering from the burden of the Last War. Not only is blood on their hands, but also the lives of those who starve to death as a result of their indefensible actions.
It takes a special kind of evil to attack a relief convoy carrying vital supplies to those who are suffering. If this is the caliber of folk who have taken over the Reaches since their secession, then it is a poor state of affairs indeed. An attack on the border such as this is without a doubt a diplomatic incident, and it is our belief here at the Voice of Aundair that this constitutes a casus belli for Aundair to bring these villains back under control.
The Aundairian military has stated it will be sending out units to secure the village and surrounding area, escorting another caravan of supplies. Will this be enough to dissuade these Eldeen Wolves? Will no further action be taken?
A sorry state of affairs, indeed.
