The city of Stormreach in Xen'drik has experienced a significant amount of civil unrest in the last weeks, as the Cyran extremist group calling itself Dannel's Wrath grows more bold. Dannel's Wrath ostensibly desires better conditions for Cyrans displaced by the Mourning, an admirable goal, and until recently they had been campaigning to achieve this peacefully. The Stormlords of Stormreach have denied their requests for aide and more land to be set aside for Cyran refugees in Stormreach, which has angered the disenfranchised people of the Dannel's Pride district.
This fire has been further stoked by general anti-Cyran in the city which resulted in several instances of violent crime being committed against the refugees, possibly gang-related. Those who were suspected of being involved in those anti-Cyran acts of violence began to turn up dead, in very public fashion, with their bodies publically on display and their crimes displayed on pieces of wood, cut into their clothes or branded into their flash. Several people who had not been publically tied to any such crimes suffered a similar fate.
It seems that Dannel's Wrath has moved beyond vigilantism in the last week. Those who have simply spoken out about their violence or expressed anti-Cyran sentiment have met similar ends to those who commited crimes against the Cyranns. The organisation has also begun targeting the holdings of the Stormlords with a string of bombings, and the kidnapping and ransoming of several important political figures within the city. One of our reporters managed to secure an interview with a supposed member of Dannel's Wrath, to discuss their goals and the increasingly extreme methods they are willing to utilise to achieve them. Below is a paraphrased statement made by the individual, who wished to remain anonymous.
"We are tired, we are angry, and we are at the end of our ropes. We've lost everything, and people seem intent on making sure we lose what little we have left. We are willing to do what Prince Oargev, safe and happy with his very own parcel of land in Eastern Breland, won't. If Oargev won't do what needs to be done to secure a future for the Cyran people, then we will. People are starving while he's off galivanting at diplomatic summits with Droaam, playing at politics on a stage that doesn't respect him. The Darguuls squat in our homes, amidst the corpses of the people they destroyed to claim that land, and the Valenar continue to raid their neighbours and laugh in the face of the Treaty of Thronehold. These are the people that have taken our homes from us, the whole world seems to think we're a joke, but we're not laughing."
"We want justice for the Mourning, and we want a home, and we are prepared to go to great lengths to achieve both of these things. We'll take them by force if necessary, with or without the royal family's help."
We reached out to the Stormlords for a statement, which was answered by Lord Varen Lassite, lord of Cross, the region of the city containing Dannel's Pride:
"We will not be intimidated, and we will not negotiate with terrorists. Stormreach is a place for everyone, where anyone can succeed and make a life for themselves, no matter where they came from, and nobody receives special treatment. Our diversity is our strength, Stormreach already had a district for Cyran nationals before tragedy befell your country, and your culture remains very much alive within our borders. The violent actions of these terrorists do all Cyrans in Stormreach a disservice. We can only advise that travelers to the city avoid Dannel's Pride for the time being, unless they wish to add fuel to the fire."
The Korranberg Chronicle is on the scene in Stormreach to report developments as they happen.
