Sharn Watch

Law Enforcement

The Sharn Watch is the organisation that enforces the law in Sharn. Officers of the Watch patrol the streets, ever vigilant for people in need, or nefarious deeds. Unfortunately, the Sharn Watch is also riddled with corruption from the top down, and there are few officers who truly want to protect the innocent. Bribery runs rampant, and the Watch has a funny way of never showing up at the same time as Daask or the Boromar Clan. Beyond that, the watch commanders focus their forces on protecting the wealthier parts of the city, whilst the lower levels are lucky to be lightly patrolled if they're patrolled at all.

The streets of Skyway are safe, but the people of The Cogs can't expect any help from the Watch, which has allowed gangs to run rampant.

Most members of the Sharn Watch are simple guards, but there are a few specialised divisions within the Watch that have more specific duties. The Blackened Book is a division of mages charged with investigating the containing magical threats to the city and its people, and unlike the Sharn Watch as a whole, members of the Book are highly dedicated to their work and to the city, and aren't known for taking bribes.

The Guardians of the Gate were formed during the Last War, and are tasked with monitoring the activities of foreign nationals in Sharn. Their duties have expanded since the end of the war, and they now supervise the refugee camp in High Walls. The Guardians of the Gate are curated, only the best are assigned to High Walls and they are usually devoted to the city. They are to place the safety of the city as a whole ahead of the refugees, but you don't request a position like High Walls unless you have some compassion for the plight of the refugees there.

The Redcloak Battalion is a unit of soldiers stationed in Sharn, who are called upon if a situation requires military force. They are heroes of the Last War, and there is some resentment within their number at being reduced to a spicy local police force now that the war is over. They are utterly loyal to Breland, however, and each of them would lay down their lives if their nation asked it of them. They do not take bribes, and attempting to bribe a member of the Redcloak Battalion is a good way to end up roughed up and put in prison.

The central administration of the Watch is headquarted in Ambassador Towers, in a building called The Citadel. This building contains the Sharn prison, and is also the headquarters of the King's Citadel in the city.
