The Ironlands are a Khyber demiplane, a subterranean landscape formed from metal, where rolling meadows of razor sharp iron grass give way to forests of adamantine trees. Metal behaves like plantlife in the Ironlands, growing from the ground and nourished by the network of luminous crystals that stud the ceiling of the immense cavern.
Even the fauna of the Ironlands reflects this metallic nature, with birds with steel feathers and insectoid creatures that rust any metal they touch, all the easier to consume. Rivers of mercury flow through the fields, watering the grass which is grazed upon by herds of mithral bison, who are in turn preyed upon by ferrowolves and Ironfur bears.
Fiends inhabit the Ironlands, constantly warring among themselves with weapons they craft from their surroundings. They are not the only inhabitants with an interest in the metal, though, as both the Ghaash'kala and the Kech Shaarat make use of the demiplane for its resources. Shaarat Draal, the fortress city of the Kech Shaarat, extends into the Ironlands. This has given the Kech an abundance of resources that the other clans lack, and combat with the native denizens of the plane have allowed to adapt and evolve their fighting style where the others have stagnated. They have even cultivated groves of Byeshk trees, giving them a renewable supply of the precious metal.
