The Cinder Steppes are a seemingly endless expanse of burning grassland. The demiplane is almost entirely flat, featuring few landmarks, and the space wraps around itself such that travelling in one direction will eventually lead you back to where you started. The winds blow ever northward, propelling the wildfire forward in that direction in a wave that continuously consumes the demiplane.
The demiplane is roughly 300 miles across, making the Cinder Steppes one of the larger demiplanes within Khyber. The sky in the Cinder Steppes is tinged orange, and the sun never sets, it only moves across the sky. The demiplane is always warm, ranging between dry savannah heat and more balmy temperatures depending on the position of the sun in the sky, but it is never cold.
All of the life within the Cinder Steppes is defined by the rolling wildfires, adapted to the heat of the demiplane and used to dealing with a world in a constant state of destruction. The most common fauna on the steppes include Cinder Rats, Ember Foxes, Nightmares and Hellhounds, but fiery elementals can also be encountered. In particular, the steppes are home to a number of phoenixes.
The entire plain is covered in Pyregrass, a long grass that grows to about 3 feet in length, but is consumed regularly by the rolling wildfire. The ash left behind is an incredible fertilizer, and the grasslands grow back completely by the time the wildfire rolls through again.
The Cinder Clans
The Cinder Steppes are also home to several nomadic clans of firenewts, who herd the native fauna both for transport and food. The firenewts are resistant to the fires that sweep the demiplane, and they view the wildfires as sacred. Some among them even commune with the flames to predict the future. They have little sense of permanence, after all, the flames consume everything regularly. As a result, they tend to operate mostly in the short-term, and so even though the Ghaash'kala are aware of the Cinder Clans, they have never brokered anything more than temporary trade.
