Festering Holt is a small village, with only approximately 200 people within it at any given time, that is one of the only places in the Demon Wastes that caters to travelers. It has an inn, a general store, and even some semblence of law. It is primarily made up of those who have fled Khorvaire for various reasons, but the village is also home to exiles from the Carrion Tribes.
The plants in the region around Festering Holt are generally toxic and cannot be consumed without proper treatment, and the fauna is venomous (but edible).
Dead by Morning
The largest building in Festering Holt, "Dead by Morning" serves as a tavern, an inn, and also something akin to a town hall. It is the gathering place for the village, and it gets its name from the toast that the bartender and owner, Karbal, always opens the bar with: "Drink up, folks, because we'll all be dead by morning!"
Whilst the inn has a livery, it's been a very long time since anyone has stabled anything there. Nevertheless, Knobby Rowan keeps it clean and ready!
"Dead by Morning" is always well stocked with food and drink, as the village's hunters bring any meat they acquire back to the tavern. where the cook's maintain a perpetual stew. When there is an abundance of food, they will sometimes roast the meat and serve it outside of the stew. It is general policy not to ask what or where the meat came from, sometimes it's just better not to know. Karbal brought a decanter of endless water with him when he arrived in the village years ago, which has allowed the village to flourish in ways it's inhabitants could never have dreamed of before.
Karbal grows starchy mushrooms, called Suur, in the basement of the tavern. He ferments these mushrooms to produce alcoholic beverages, and also to add more flavour to the stew.
