18. Off the Rails

13th Sypheros, 998 YK

  • Chloe does the recap, earning Yashira an advance on her least developed theme
  • The party have just boarded a train to Passage from Thaliost, in pursuit of the thief that stole the Duskgate Crucible.
  • The Lightning Rail pulls out of Thaliost, and they are all ushered into their compartments for the night. They'll have to conduct their investigation in the morning.
  • We have a camping scene in their bunks, allowing them to refresh their relationship tags and examine their story tags, renewing those that still apply
  • Charlie gets Warren (the actual rat) out and practices his necromancy in the cabin. Damien remarks on it, he doesn't like that thing.
  • Ruckus spends some time crafting stuff. He makes a flare gun 
  • Poor Damien, trying to sleep amongst that racket. Yashira and Nerysdeth got the better deal in the other cabin, but the noise still keeps them up.


14th Sypheros, 998 YK

  • In the morning, Nerys quietly asks Charlie to come out to speak to them, trying not to wake the others
  • Charlie makes a racket trying to get up, waking the others
  • Nerys asks Charlie if he wants to go with them to find breakfast.
  • Once they're out of earshot of the others, Nerys says they want to ask Charlie some things. It's nothing bad!
  • "Sure"
  • Nerys starts with the "less invasive" question, and asks how he met Luca Syara
  • Charlie explains he was doing a show as Trixie Towers, and Luca was in the audience. She approached him afterwards, and thus began a beautiful friendship
  • "Wow that's like a real life fairy tale, someone really cool sees your potential"
  • "Yeah she's special to me"
  • Nerys asks if they're friends? Charlie thinks so, but he doesn't know how Luca's mind works
  • "She must care at least a little, she came to rescue us!"
  • "Can't make her laugh if I'm dead"
  • Nerys thinks Charlie is selling himself short, and they would know, they're short
  • Nerys then asks, getting all bashful, if there is someone Charlie likes
  • Charlie freezes like a deer in headlights
  • "Oh it's not like it's obvious or anything I just pick up on details"
  • Charlie goes bright red, and says they don't need to talk about this. Nerys says they don't have to, but does he want to? They won't tell anyone!
  • Nerys just thinks that as an artist, Charlie is prime material for a love interest in a story like this one. His story doesn't need to involve romance though!
  • Charlie says it's too early in the morning for this
  • "It's like 10am"
  • "Shit, is it?"
  • Nerys apologises if they made Charlie uncomfortable. He says it's difficult to discuss, he does have feelings for someone.
  • Nerys gets excited, and Charlie starts to shut them down. "I was just gasping for dramatic reasons!"
  • Charlie does have feelings, but he doesn't want to make things weird or fuck up the friendship. He needs waffles.
  • Or pancakes
  • Nerys says they should bring back some for the others too. They can even balance a plate on their head!
  • Charlie starts making a scene, and now everyone else in the dining car is looking at him
  • He gets flustered and goes to leave, and then Damien walks into the car. Charlie tries to make an excuse to leave, and Damien asks if he's feeling alright and puts his hand on Charlie's shoulder
  • Uh oh spaghetti-o's
  • Charlie, flustered, makes an excuse to leave. Damien says okay, and goes to get out of the way but they go the same way and do an awkward little dance
  • Nerys rubs their eyes, and then greets Damien
  • Nerys offers Damien pancakes, but he says no, he needs coffee first. A triple espresso.
  • Damien and Nerys get breakfast for the others. Nerys says that they feel like they made Charlie upset, they feel like they keep saying the wrong thing
  • Damien says not to worry, Charlie is Charlie. He knows what he wants.
  • "He's so cool though! He knows this amazing playwright who just found him at his show and he works so hard to be an artist and I just wish I could connect more with him, but I keep saying the wrong things and making him upset. He ran away from me!"
  • Damien says to give him some space, it's been a trying few days. "I'm sure he doesn't think bad of you"
  • Nerys says "I just feel like, you know when you try to be friends with someone and it messes up the dynamic?"
  • "No, that's never happened to me. Everyone likes me"
  • "You and Yashira had a rough start?"
  • "What? No, Yashira loves me"
  • Yashira walks in at this point with her notebook, and tells Damien to wrap up the social butterfly thing, thanks. They've got investigations to do.
  • Damien hands her an espresso, which she immediately necks despite the heat
  • Yashira has had "the minimum amount" of 4 hours sleep, and coffee will do the rest.
  • "We're glad you're taking care of yourself"
  • Yashira pushes Damien to go speak to the flamboyant man in the dining car. "Go do your thing"
  • Nerys goes to take food to Charlie and Ruckus. They put the food down at the door, knock, and then skedaddle because they don't want to see Charlie right now and make it worse
  • Ruckus answers the door. "I didn't realise trains had food deliveries"
  • "Hey Charlie, did you know trains have deliveries?"
  • "I don't think they do, Ruckus"
  • "Well, I was thinking about pancakes and they just appeared"
  • "It was probably Nerys, we were getting breakfast and I made a total arse of myself and then came back here"
  • "Why'd you do that?"
  • Autism activated
  • "I didn't mean to!"
  • Ruckus continues to not read the room, and comments on the "weird energy" lately.
  • Charlie says it'll be fine once they get to work
  • Ruckus has ravenously devoured the pancakes, no cutlery. They forget he grew up in the Cogs with food insecurity.
  • "Charlie these are really good" with a mouth full
  • They get five minutes of peace before Yashira knocks on the door and tells them to get up, they've got a job to do
  • "Charlie, Ruckus, I would really love it if we could get back on track finding this individual. I don't know what's going on, but if you could come to the dining hall, I would appreciate that."
  • Ruckus says he gets the impression Yashira wants them for something. Unclear.
  • Ruckus also ate all the pancakes, so Charlie hasn't eaten. He tried to get one and Ruckus growled at him. Yeesh.
  • Ruckus says he's gotten by without eating often, so he takes the chance when it arises. He pauses, and then goes "wait is that why I'm so short?"
  • Oh god
  • Charlie says not to worry about it, "you need food"
  • "What do you mean you've not eaten often?"
  • "Couldn't afford it. You'd be surprised what's edible if you're desperate"
  • and then he walks out of the cabin. Charlie is haunted.
  • He's gonna make sure this little guy is well fed when they get back to Sharn, especially as Ruckus is moving into Charlie's spare room.
  • Everyone is now in the dining car. Yashira looks like she hasn't slept, she's pacing, eyebags on show.
  • Ruckus says "you okay? You look more off the rails than usual"
  • Yashira takes offense. "I am never off the rails. I'm casing everybody. This is fine, we're going to find our culprit before the train even reaches the next stop, never mind Passage."
  • Ruckus says he's never seen anyone take a job this seriously.
  • "Shouldn't we always be taking it seriously? Were none of you taking these seriously before?"
  • The silence is deafening
  • Yashira's foot tapping velocity increases
  • "That's a useful revelation...it's good to know we don't take the jobs seriously, I'll factor that into future planning" - Yashira
  • "We do take them some kind of serious but not to this level" - Ruckus
  • "The reality is, if we fail here, we unleash a whole nation's worth of lycanthropes onto the world. That's...I don't like to use the term 'high stakes' too often, but this is pretty high stakes. So I'd love if we could take this one seriously, that'd be great, for a variety of reasons" - Yashira
  • She lists a variety of reasons. At the bottom of the list, the very bottom, is they'd prove themselves to certain people. Mhmm.
  • Nerys asks if Yashira has eaten? She has not, just coffee
  • "It's fine, my stomach is not settling well and my hands are shaking and that's not good for taking notes, so I'll eat later"
  • She suggests they split up, who wants to take which people in the dining car?
  • Nerys is concerned, she should really eat
  • "Yashira can you sit down please and explain everything again please"
  • "What? Like, why we're here?"
  • "Yeah, sit down"
  • "I would, but we've already wasted six minutes talking about this already"
  • "Please"
  • Okay, she can spare two minutes. She sits down.
  • Nerys gets up and sits down on Yashira lap. "I'm not moving until you eat something"
  • No no no no no
  • Yashira is gonna fucking explode. She locks eyes with Damien and mouths "carry on"
  • She then turns to the others and says go talk to anybody, she will be with them in a few minutes.
  • Damien says not to eat too fast or she'll make herself sick
  • Ruckus looks up, mouth full of more pancakes, "wuh?"
  • Nerys tells Yashira she needs to look after herself, and she knows this, she's the smartest person on the train
  • Yashira contests this, she's not the smartest and that's the reality she has to reckon with. She can't afford to waste time eating! She's fine!
  • Nerys says they have two days until the moon stuff, and they have time until they get to Passage and no one can get off a moving train! Unless they jump, and that didn't work out so well last time they saw someone do that!
  • Yashira accepts the reality that she is stuck until she eats, so she snarfs down two pancakes, though still with more poise and decorum than Ruckus. She actually uses cutlery!
  • Nerys also tries to force her to drink water, but that's a step too far. Damien comes back and puts a coffee down on the table before going off to do his thing.
  • Yashira's face actually softens! Coffee good
  • Once Nerys is satisfied that Yashira has eaten enough, they get up and apologise for forcing the issue.
  • "Nerys I mean this in the best possible way, you ever do that to me again and we are...going to have words"
  • Oh no Nerys has upset another person
  • Nerys is going to cry, but later. They drown their pancakes in syrup.
  • They case all of the people in the dining car. Damien will take the flamboyant man, he doesn't feel comfortable approaching one of the lone women.
  • Damien approaches the merchant and greets him, asking if he can sit. "By all means" says the merchant, as he gives Damien an up-down.
  • Damien makes small talk, learning a bunch of basic details about this man. His name is Marty Azeri, he's a textiles merchant originally from Cyre. He lost everything during the Mourning, but something about Damien made him want to open up. Damien doesn't think this guy is involved.
  • Damien does latch onto Marty being a textiles merchant, and says he saw a beautiful maroon cloak earlier. Where would he get something like that?
  • Marty hasn't seen any maroon cloaks recently, but he does have maroon fabrics in the cargo hold. If Damien finds him in Passage, maybe he could buy some, at a discount ;)
  • Damien mentions that Passage is his home town! He makes some recommendations, and then goes and gets Yashira the coffee (from earlier)
  • Tamara makes a comment about Marty being sus. Ell says "he lost his country, Nerys!"
  • Yashira goes to speak with the half-elf woman with the pendant. She's barely touched her breakfast, and has papers spread out over the table. She seems nervous. Yashira asks if everything is okay
  • The woman explains she's giving a lecture in Morgrave University in a few days and there's just...a lot. Yashira asks if she's doing it alone?
  • She is, and yes, it is a lot
  • Yashira introduces herself, and the woman does so in turn: her name is Lenora.
  • Yashira asks if she can sit with her? They can keep each other company while they review their respective notes.
  • Yashira takes the opportunity to scribble in her notes, and tries to glean what she can from what Lenora is studying. She notes that Lenora seems to be a historian, the sheets are on Thranish history.
  • Lenora notices Yashira looking, and asks if she has an interest?
  • Yashira says not herself, but her friend is very interested. Lenora asks if she could practice the lecture?
  • Yashira says she'll introduce her to Charlie later, he'd love to, and then excuses herself.
  • Nerys and Ruckus go to speak to the half-orc lady, Karash. She has finished her breakfast already, and greets them as they approach. Nerys introduces herself, as does Karash. Nerys offers her an extra pancake, "we ordered too many", which she accepts.
  • Nerys asks if she's ever eaten pancakes from the Shadow Marches? They use a root vegetable that makes everything really puffy
  • She has, actually!
  • Nerys then remembers Ruckus exists and introduces him too. "All good"
  • Karash comments that their group seems to be speaking to everybody, is something going on?
  • "We're just very sociable people...we're looking for a friend"
  • Karash doesn't buy it, she tells them to take a seat. Something is clearly going on.
  • Nerys asks if she's a detective? No
  • She's a trader from the Reaches, and the group is acting very suspicious. What's going on?
  • "That's just our vibe, a lot of us have autism"
  • Oh my god
  • "I'm so sorry, I didn't to imply anything"
  • "No it's okay"
  • Nerys describes who they're looking for, looking to Ruckus for approval. Oh no
  • Ruckus shrugs
  • Karash leans in and says she didn't see a maroon cloak, but she did overhear a conversation in the hall last night. Three people, muttering about "getting even" with someone. Sounded suspicious.
  • Nerys asks if she's sure she's not a detective?
  • Nah, but you need to be aware of your surroundings when you grow up in the Reaches.
  • Nerys asks if it's true their governor is a tree?
  • Karash goes off on a tangent about the geopolitical situation in the Reaches, how they don't really have a central government.
  • Talking trees are cool
  • Nerys asks Karash what she thought of the rioting in Thaliost?
  • Karash says she's always nervous when she has to go to Thaliost. It's a powder keg.
  • "Did you know the governor there burns people alive?"
  • what the fuck
  • "Yeah, they put some Aundairian extremist in charge, but he's definitely made it worse"
  • Nerys asks about the purge, and the Church of the Silver Flame's purging of the shifters. Karash says that's very heavy for breakfast...
  • Nerys apologises, they grew up sheltered in the Mror Holds and this is all so much like a story rather than the brutal reality for a lot people
  • Karash accepts the apology
  • Nerys asks if she's heading back to the Reaches? She is, she's heading back to Varna.
  • "I hope you have a good journey home, right Ruckus?"
  • "yeah sure, indeed"
  • Why did they send the two most socially inept people? lmao
  • "I hope you find your friend, what was their name?"
  • "Lhara"
  • "I'll keep an eye out"
  • Once they get away, Nerys has a little breakdown because they keep picking the wrong dialogue options and upsetting people and now they're upset too and they feel like they're centering themself
  • Ruckus says "okay...I guess we're doing this now"
  • Oh my god
  • Ruckus tries to comfort them, but tells them they need to toughen up. "You can't crumble like a house of cards as soon as things start to turn against you. Nobody hates you yet"
  • "yet?" through tears
  • There's always room for hate in our hearts
  • Nerys doesn't have many friends, their best friend went missing and now the party is basically all they have.
  • Ruckus doesn't understand where "coworkers" stops and "friends" begins. Nerys says they want to be his friend!
  • "Sorry was that too weird?"
  • babies
  • Damien and Yashira intervene, as they're causing another scene in the dining car and compromising the investigation.
  • "You are having a bit of a day, Nerys, but you need to calm down" - Damien
  • "I don't like having days"
  • Nerys doesn't understand why everyone is being weird today. Why is everyone so stressed? Why can't it be like the earlier missions when everything was chill
  • Damien says quietly "because the fate of the world is at stake"
  • Ruckus says "yeah we need to stop the lycanpocalypse"
  • Yashira writes that down, that's good!
  • Charlie approaches the black haired human woman and tries to look at what she's writing. Without looking up, she tells him to fuck off.
  • "Oh, umm, I'm sorry. I don't know what to do now"
  • "You can start by fucking off"
  • "Did I...do something?"
  • "We don't know each other. I have no interest in us knowing each other. Have a nice day"
  • "Sorry for wasting your time"
  • "Yup"
  • Charlie returns to the group, where they're having a bit of a break down whilst Damien and Yashira try to calm the other two down
  • "Everything okay Charlie?" - Yashira
  • "No she just told me to fuck off, is Nerys okay?" - Charlie
  • "We're having a bit of a moment. Can't win em all, Charlie, some people are just like that" - Yashira
  • "I was just trying to see what she was writing and she told me to fuck off. Fair, I guess" - Charlie
  • "Kinda based, actually" - Damien
  • Yashira tells Charlie about Lenora, and that she volunteered him to receive a test run of the lecture she's giving in a few days. She seemed stressed.
  • "You don't have to, though, of course"
  • "I would prefer to be useful, and given the person I tried to speak to told me to fuck off, I'll try it"
  • Yashira introduces Charlie to Lenora.
  • Lenora explains her deal, and asks if Charlie wants to hear her lecture?
  • Charlie is in his element now boiz. Of course he does!
  • Lenora talks for over an hour, covering the history of Thrane even before it was Thrane, when it was the kingdom of Daskara. She immediately asks for feedback once she's finished.
  • Charlie says it was a brilliant lecture, no major gaps, gave everything the attention it needed. She was very engaging, he thinks she's gonna do great! "You're gonna slam dunk this"
  • She's not sure what that means but assumes it's a good thing
  • Charlie then segues into asking questions about Lamannia and the Silver Crusade. She explains in detail what happened with the Changegate and the zoanthropes being exiled to Lamannia.
  • Charlie asked if there's any factions that would have an interest in releasing those zoanthropes from Lamannia?
  • Lenora can't see why anyone would want to do that
  • Charlie asks if, hypothetically, there was a conjunction of moons, how might one open that portal?
  • Lenora eyes go wide, and asks what's going on?
  • "Oh nothing, I was just thinking, sometimes I get wound up in catastrophic thinking. Like, what if the manifest zones in Sharn failed and it all plummeted to the ground?"
  • "well, you don't need to worry because even with a conjunction of moons, they'd need an artifact called the Duskgate Crucible to open the gate, and that's securely stored in Thaliost"
  • "yep" Charlie says, a little too quickly
  • "Yeah of course if they had this magical artifact, which they don't, even if they got the gate open there's no guarantee the lycanthropes would be feral or anything"
  • "It's not like there'd be a suspected group of druids who want to get revenge on Aundair or anything, or maybe it'd be an inside job by Aundair or"
  • fucking hell Charlie
  • Lenora narrows her eyes, but Charlie manages to play it off
  • "You've got a very active imagination"
  • Yeah, he does
  • Charlie excuses himself, wishes her the best of luck. "If you see Professor Martins, he's a dick, ignore him"
  • He returns to the others
  • Yashira says he looked panicky at some points, what happened?
  • Charlie explains he tried to prod too much, gave too much away, but he doesn't think it's her. He forgot to ask her about the maroon cloak, shit
  • Breakfast has ended, and most people have now exited the dining car. They discuss what they've learned so far.
  • Nerys laments that they could've searched the cabins while everyone was at breakfast! Fuck!
  • Yashira wants to learn more about the person who was rude to Charlie. Rudeness isn't confirmation, but it is suspicious.
  • Lenora was obviously nervous, but was it actually about the lecture?
  • "I won't lie Yashira, if it was her, she'd be suspicious of us now. I yapped too much, but she understands the mechanism"
  • Nerys says that Karash also clocked them as suspicious
  • Not ideal, but Yashira is suddenly an optimist.
  • "Maybe we need a more direct approach. Searching rooms, maybe start probing people with silver? We'd have to be subtle though, so we don't get arrested"
  • Nerys asks if they're sure the person trying to open this gate is trying to do a bad thing? They know they stole an artifact but is that bad?
  • "They stole an artifact they had no right to take, their intentions are irrelevant"
  • "Isn't that what we do though?"
  • "No we're...allowed. Most of the time. Fort Bones was another matter"
  • Damien asks if silver coins would work? Or does it have to be a weapon?
  • Damien has a brain wave, when they serve dinner on the train, they use silver cutlery!
  • Yashira asks if he's certain about this? It's actually silver?
  • "Only the best on Orien trains"
  • Okay that's good! That means their culprit won't be able to touch the cutlery.
  • That's a lead!
  • Yashira asks if it's common knowledge that they use silver? Maybe they touch it by mistake and have a reaction.
  • Do they allow private dinner service? "Yes, but it's very expensive. Unlikely if they're on the run"
  • Yashira's mood is rapidly improving
  • She recaps their options: investigate the cabins during dinner, or watch people during dinner to identify the lycanthropes. Do they split up and do both? What if something goes wrong?
  • Yashira thinks they should stick together, and do the dinner option.
  • Damien also suggests the dinner service
  • Everyone is in agreement.
  • They wait for dinner, and then are served spicy Aundairian rabbit soup, with freshly baked bread and salad. Delicious.
  • They try to be subtle about looking around.
  • One of the people in the group of three in the corner booth exclaims "fuck!" and then complains about the soup being too hot. Hmm.
  • Yashira also notices that the woman that told Charlie to fuck off hasn't touched the silverware, she's just picking at the salad with her fingers, and brings the soup bowl directly to her lips.
  • Yashira points that out to Charlie. "Bit weird to eat salad with your fingers"
  • Charlie is eating the salad with his fingers...
  • Yashira starts going into game plan and then does a double take upon noticing that. "Ugh, I mean, it's perfectly acceptable in some circumstances..."
  • "It's fine, it's not the worst thing someone has said to me today"
  • Nerys sniffles
  • "Okay but genuine question, don't you find the dressing gets on your fingertips?"
  • "Yeah you just lick them"
  • "ugh...but how do you eat the soup? With the cutlery?"
  • "Yeah I'm not a monster"
  • "But the dressing on your fingers"
  • "As I said, you just lick em"
  • Yashira is audibly disgusted, but presses it down.
  • How do they approach this? There's two potential suspicious individuals
  • Yashira also notices that the rude woman has a satchel beneath her seat, but her foot is through the strap to prevent someone taking it
  • How do they go about this? Maybe spill something on her and try and get a look into the satchel? They can't make too much of a scene
  • None of them are particularly good at thieving
  • They just need to get a look at the satchel, confirm if it's her or not. They don't need to try and take the item back now.
  • Someone distracts, someone gets a look. Good plan.
  • Damien suggests dropping some silverware on her as they walk past, that would be confirmation
  • Charlie says that's not confirmation on its own that she's the thief, just that she's a zoanthrope. A zoanthrope who is also a dick, but not necessarily the thief.
  • Yashira thinks that's fair, but with all of the other context clues, it's suspicious. She's also so protective of her privacy and the satchel, it adds up.
  • Ruckus reminds them of the person in the corner that "burnt their finger on soup". They can't focus entirely on the rude woman and forget about that.
  • Yashira thinks they approach just the rude woman for now, so they don't make too much of a scene and risk the train crew getting involved.
  • They decide who will distract and who will try to get a look at the satchel?
  • Yashira has sticky fingers, for legal reasons, of course
  • Charlie is good at distractions. The woman already doesn't like him.
  • Yashira goes up to the bar, so she's ready to move to take a look at the woman's satchel once the distraction begins.
  • Charlie and Damien begin operation distraction.
  • Damien asks how they're doing this. "Do we act like pissed off lovers? Do I confront her and say she was rude to my boyfriend?"
  • Charlie goes bright red. "uggh, that might work?"
  • Damien says "hmm, no no. That won't work, you're obviously far too smart for a guy like me"
  • Charlie is visible devastated, "don't talk about yourself like that"
  • Yashira looks over, how is it already falling apart? She mouths at them "get. your. shit. together."
  • They get their shit together
  • They approach the woman, and Damien confronts her about being rude to his friend. 
  • She locks eyes with him as he approaches, soup bowl to her lips.
  • "You're blocking the view"
  • Oh he's immediately on the back foot. Oh no
  • "What a shame for you"
  • She leans back and asks if she can help him?
  • Damien says she was rude to his friend this morning. "What, the puppy?"
  • "I hope you're not talking about my friend"
  • "He looks like he's got fucking horse teeth"
  • Ooooh
  • "You're not a very nice person, are you?"
  • "Fuck off"
  • Damien says he wants an apology. The woman leans forward, putting her hand gently on the satchel, but before she can speak, one of the men from the corner booth puts their hand on Damien's shoulder and says "is this man bothering you, miss?"
  • Oh no
  • Damien tells him to fuck off, they're having a private conversation
  • Oh no they hadn't even considered that there was more than one lycanthrope
  • Oh fuck fuck fuck fuck
  • It's all falling apart. Yashira walks over and goes down to tie her shoe lace behind the woman, trying to get a look at the satchel.
  • Everything is going fine yes yes
  • The man pulls Damien up from the chair, as Yashira flips the flap on the satchel and sees a streak of maroon fabric. The woman's nostrils flare as she stands, sending the chair backwards into Yashira and knocking her back.
  • Damien makes a comment about this guy being awfully forward, and then he gets punched. Oh god
  • Damien collides with a table, sending soup flying onto someone, as a Deneith guard intervenes and grabs the man that threw the punch.
  • The woman apologises to Yashira and then walks away, making her way to the back of the car to the door.
  • Yashira has to make a choice. Damien needs help, but the suspect is getting away. She chooses to pursue the woman, shooting Damien an apologetic look and looking at the others, mouthing "help him", and she follows the suspect
  • Damien will remember this.
  • The suspect sees this, and picks up the pace. Yashira does too. The woman climbs on top of the rail, and Yashira follows.
  • The others go to help Damien out.
  • Yashira and the woman are on top of the train, wind and rain whipping at them. The woman yells "who the fuck are you?"
  • "I could ask you the same question! This isn't safe, we should go back inside and talk about this!"
  • The woman snarls and runs at her. Yashira's eyes widen, expecting that she's about to get mauled as she draws her silvered dagger.
  • The woman's eyes lock on the dagger, and she tries to avert course, hitting Yashira side on. Yashira falls over, but the woman falls off the side of the train with a sickening crunch. Yashira watches in horror as the woman's limbs snap back into place and she gets back to her feet, satchel in hand.
