Bag of Magic Mushrooms

Inside this soft silken pouch are 3d4 dried mushrooms. The bag weighs ½ pound plus ¼ pound for each mushroom it contains.

If you dump the bag’s contents out on the ground, they explode in a 10-foot radius, extending from the mushrooms. Each creature in the area, including you, must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 5d4 poison damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The poison coats the area in poisonous spores for 1d4 hours. Any creature that starts its turn in the area must repeat the saving throw again, against the same effect.

If you remove a mushroom from the bag and eat it, an effect happens to you from the following table. The DM can choose an effect, determine it randomly, or create a new effect.

01You lose all memories from the last hour permanently, only recoverable with a Wish spell. Also: Roll any die. On an even roll the eater gains 5d6 temporary hit points for 1 hour. On an odd roll they take 5d6 points of poison damage and become poisoned for 1 hour.
02-10You shrink down to a size of Tiny as from the Enlarge/Reduce spell, except your melee attacks deal 2d4 less damage. This effect lasts for 8 hours or until cured by Greater Restoration or a similar spell.
11-20For the next 8 hours, whenever you drink any liquid, in addition to its normal properties, it also has the effect of a normal Healing Potion. You can only benefit from this effect once a minute.
21-30For the next 8 hours, you crave the physical touch of others. It feels so good to be embraced. You are charmed by every other creature. The first creature you see that is of a species and gender that you are attracted to you regard it as your true love for the duration.
31-40For the next 10 minutes you receive visions of a place familiar to you as if through the Clairvoyance spell. You can see and hear normally as if you were there. There is no distance limitation to the effect.
41-50Nothing happens immediately, but you find yourself eating another mushroom without realizing it. If there are no more magic mushrooms, you begin searching the area for mushrooms, eating the first one you come across. In addition to whatever effect occurs from subsequent mushrooms, after the next long rest, you begin to physically glow, shedding bright light in a 30 foot radius and dim light for another 30 feet. This effect lasts for 8 hours.
51-60Choose a language you know. For the next 8 hours, you can only speak and write in that language, though you continue to understand all languages you normally understand. Tongues and similar spells have no effect on you for the duration.
61-70If you can play an instrument and one is available, you begin playing it. If no music is playing and you are unable to play any music, you demand someone play music for you. If nobody fulfills your desire for music, you set off in search of song, humming to yourself. This effect lasts for 8 hours or until cured by Greater Restoration or a similar spell.
71-80Your internal voices are amplified and projected onto the plants around you. They tell you to do things that you normally don’t act upon, but you are strangely compelled to listen to the plants. The plants do not listen to you, as much as you try to communicate with them. To others, it seems as if you become more impulsive and chaotic. This effect lasts for 8 hours.
81-90Colors around you pop more vibrantly and you begin to see subtle cues you have missed before in people’s expressions. You begin to see past the fabric of your normal perception. You see things for how they truly are. You gain True Seeing out to 120 feet and Detect Thoughts to 30 feet. This effect lasts for 8 hours.
91-99You recede into your mind and begin falling into a pit of eternal darkness. You hear gibbering sounds of whispers in a language you can’t understand. You are unconscious for 1 hour or until cured by a Greater Restoration or similar spell. When you awaken you feel as if months have passed. You can only speak in one or two syllable words, and you gain the flaw “I believe normalcy is but a thin veneer over the reality of unspeakable horrors beyond comprehension, and everyone needs to understand this.”  A Remove Curse spell removes this flaw and speech impediment.
00Reality begins to melt away as you are placed on a plane of raw existence. You forget basic concepts such as time, gender, and currency. You are alone in this demiplane, created spontaneously in your own mind. You have an urge to truly think about things as you enter a state of deep introspection and meditation. To an outside observer, you vanish. This effect lasts for one hour or until cured by a Wish spell. If the effect is allowed to continue for the full duration, you benefit from the experience. During a period of introspection you learn one new thing about yourself. It could be a new spell, a feat, a change of alignment, a skill proficiency, or something similar, pending DM approval. You also gain one point of exhaustion.
