Reedley

Landscape

The country is made up of a mixture of Montane ecosystem with a vast array of alpine mountains, subalpine regions, temperate forests, and Mediterranean coastlines. The main mountain range that separates Eifenlana from Reedley has some of the tallest mountain in the world. 

Climate/Weather

The climate ranges from humid hot summers to freezing below zero winters. The land sees a lot of precipitation in many kinds of forms most notably holding records for the most rainfall that can occur in one region. Thankfully due to the mountainous land, wind isn't as much of an issue as it is in it's neighboring region.

Natural Resources

Many different types of natural resources are easily accessible within the country. Reedley is a known export of natural gas as well as ground water from the glacial run offs of the mountains. Lakes and rivers are filled with a vast array of fresh water fish used in a variety of fishing exports. The Sea is also accessible opening the door for salt water fish. Traditional hunting and gathering methods are affective within the mountain regions for a variety of fauna and flora that the mountains and forests can provide. Wood is also often logged and the mountains are excavated for mineral exports. 

Seasons

The entire region experiences regulated seasonal changes featuring the main four different seasons. It is expected that further up north winters are a lot harsher than they are further south. Spring and falls see a lot more rainfall than the other two seasons which causes flooding to often occur amongst its various rivers. 

Animals

A large variety of birds, mammals, insects, and fish reside within Reedley creating an abundance within the ecosystem. Some of the most notable animals are bears, wolves, deer, loons, boards, goats, and much more. Some of the more dangerous creatures not seen as often include elementals, dragons, and basilisks. 

Plants

The plant life within Reedley consists of a variety of unique trees that make up the heart of the countries forests. Broadleaf trees, pine, conifers and so much more. Within the alpine regions there are less plant life but still some nonetheless. A variety of larch, hemlock, and firs can be found tucked away within the mountain regions and amongst the grasslands. Aside from the trees, the land is known for the berry producing plants that can be heavily found throughout the forests. 

Races

A Dwarf are the most commonly found race within this region. Some other races who reside within the country include Halfling, Human, and Goliath. Goblin and Orc can be spotted but aren't as common.

Governance and Economics

Reedley runs off of a clan based system with a high council that has seats representing each recognized clan. Together the clan chooses one representative that acts as the head of the council. This head may have advisors to assist them, but most of the work will be primarily redistributed to the other council members. In total there are seven chairs with the head acting as the eighth. 

Because Reedley is primarily of dwarven decent, the economy of the country relies heavily on trade and exports of natural resources. The Council works diligently on providing the proper channels and resources required to ensure that the distribution is effective and beneficial. 

Socio-Economic Classes

Reedley primarily sees two different levels of social economic classes. Both of which are considered working classes regardless of ones status. There is an Upper Class where most of the council clans will reside. They are considered to be well off and not as reliant on monetary salaries as much as the lower class is. The lower class are often the ones who are hardest workers. They provide the manual labor that create the backbone of the country while the upper level are the scholars that run the numbers. 

Education

The Upper Class are the most educated individuals within the country. They are the ones who received the degrees through the educational system that the country has to offer. A variety of public schooling is available to allow those who can afford it attend. Those within the lower class do not attend school but instead learn most of their education from mentors or tutors that have taken people under their wing for private practices. Often those in the Upper class are mentors to those in the Lower class. 

Employment

Since Reedley is highly regarded as a place with many natural resources available for export there are many job opportunities for manual labor are available. Miners, loggers, and general laborers are the most common jobs that are available. Aside from the average jobs, other unique jobs around the area include mountaineers and goat shepherds. 

Agriculture

Aquaculture and commercial agriculture is the primary fundamental of sustainability within Reedley. Council ran farms are under the guidance of the different clans. Each clan is in charge of the appropriate distribution of agriculture within the communities on the orders of the Council. Each farm or hatchery work in a partnership with local shops to distribute their goods for monetary value amongst the people. 

Trade

When it comes to trade, Reedley has a vast amount of resources available. However, due to the mountain range trade options are very limited but not unheard of. Most of the trade consists of networks that revolve around their fisheries and certain logging and mining operations. Most logging exports are transported to the coast where it will be shipped off to sea to the desired country. Mine materials are transported in small amounts through the mountain passageways and fisheries will dock their boats in another country first before heading home. 

Conflict

Reedley is a humble land without any known major conflict. They have good relations with most other nations around the world and are known primarily as peace keepers. Although they are recognized as a calm and nice country they do not shy away from their strengths within their military forces. Reedley has a strong military presence within the nation with soldiers sanctioned within each major town and city. The soldiers keep everyone in line on the land as well as those who are at sea. 

Family and Friendships

There is a large sense of community within Reedley. Everyone is family in way shape or another. Most families will be close and run from 3-6 children per family. If someone within the family is recognized as an outsider, they usually leave to find a new life elsewhere in a different land. If those individuals don't seek out home on land then they will travel out to sea.

Social Rules

Hospitality is big around these regions. Its wrong to deny someone when offered a place to stay or food to eat. Most are gracious and respectful to one another and it is considered to be normal for large gatherings to occur. Help one means to help all in the eyes of the citizens. 

Food

The food of Reedley is hearty consisting of wild game mixed with freshly harvested vegetables and washed down with fine berry wines. The food in these regions are always savory with a variety of smoked techniques being used to make their meals. They are also known for their sauces and roasting techniques. Stews and a household must as are hot coco and teas during the cold winter months. 

Art

Although the country is often regarded as a brute type of country it is no stranger to the Arts. The people of this land are crafters through stone work, wood carvings, engravings and much more. They often follow geometric symmetries and runic like artistic styles creating a unique and recognizable art style for the region. With dark bold colors and clear cut movements the art of this region is often bigger than the artist who makes them. 

Religion

The people of the region highly respect their council, but they respect their gods far more. Goddess Karametra, God Keranos, Goddess Nylea, and God Purphoros are some of the most common Gods worshipped in this region. Each God has a temple of worship that those can pray within in solitude or with the community. Various statues representing the likeness of the Gods can be found throughout the region as a means of honoring those who protect them. 

Architecture

Classical Architecture is how one would define the architecture of the region. The cities are fairly large as are the towns and villages. All of which are well kept and built strong out of various types of stonework. The temples are easily recognizable but do not stand out drastically when compared to other buildings. Even the main hub where the council met and reside is a simple large building with very traditional art and architecture. The architecture of this region shows a very straightforward and concrete ideology that the people are known for. 

Languages

Dwarvish, halfling, common, Gol-Kaa are all languages that are spoken within Reedly. Common and Dawrvish being the most common within the area. The more towards the coast, the more you begin to hear the Gol-Kaa dialects. South are where more Halfling can be heard. 

Clothing and Fashion

Leathers, wools, cottons, canvas, and hemp are the primary materials used to make most clothes and fashion. Those who are laborers are often adorned in protective gear made out of the leathers and some metals hand crafted to be fit for the job at hand. It is common to see piercings and tattoos on adults adorning various styles as a fashion statement.

Entertainment, Celebrations, and Festivals

Music is one of the art forms that brings enjoyment to the average lifestyle within Reedley. Traditional folk music livens up any bar scene or sailing vessel. It is common for concerts and performances to tour around the country as a common form of entertainment. Traditional festivals and celebrations will be held for correspond with various harvests, holidays, and more. The country may be humble but its people sure do know how to put on a celebration. 

Forms of Magic

Magic is not unheard of within these regions but not very many people can call themselves magic users. Although each bloodline retains a small form of magic there are those who cannot wield its full force. Most magic will be natural but some require a focus to be able to channel the appropriate energies. 

Magic Users/Orgins/Source

Magic users will vary but are more commonly seen amongst the humans and goliaths within the region as natural born users. Others learn through others in mentorship or travel to a different land in order to seek the powers that they desire. Most users within the region will be identified as Wizards while very few will be regarded as a sorcerer. Some may be blessed by their gods and receive magic through means of worship and patronage. 

Limitations

Residents of Reedley are extremely susceptible to magic burn out when compared to other regions. Because magic doesn't flow as naturally here, it is harder to maintain a balance of use. Those who are natural born users don't experience the burn out as drastically but are no stranger to the feeling of being drained.  

Science and Technology

As a place that doesn't prioritize on magic and focuses more on labor and mechanical advancements, the people often find themselves praising the advancement of industrial technology. The industrial movements are very prominent and well valued amongst the residents. Although people can be dismissive of magic users believe that magic was the easy way out, they still are thankful for the help that they can receive when it comes to making some of the technology advancements work just a little better.
