Samnite – Sword and tower shield

The Samnite was an early type of heavily armed fighter that disappeared in the early imperial period. A "Samnite" gladiator is armed with a long rectangular shield (scutum), a plumed helmet, a short sword, and probably a greave on his left leg.

Weapons and Weapon combinations:
When fighting with a tower shield and only wearing light armor or piece meal armor, you gain the following benefits:
- When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll.
- You may grant your shield bonus to a single adjacent ally instead of yourself.
- If you move at least half your movement speed, you can take a special shove action as a reaction. You can choose to make a shove action for every 5 ft. you want to push the target up to what is left of your movement. EX. If you have a movement of 30 ft, and you move 15 ft up to an opponent, you could make up to three shove attacks on the target. Each one uses up 5 ft of your movement whether you are successful or not.
