Professional Assistant

One of the safest ways to make a living as a wizard is to manufacture and sell enchanted items. This requires a high level of expertise in a particular trade. The items must be crafted with exceptional quality to not only hold the enchantments, but to endure the rigorous usage they will face.

As the familiar to a crafting wizard, you learned to help where you could. Certain parts of the process could be entrusted to you to perform. This made you comfortable with the tools of the trade. You would have also assisted with customers and materials vendors. In addition, you gained insight into the arduous enchanting process.

Feature: (guild membership) Because your master was an established and respected member of a guild, you can gain membership as well. Your fellow guild members will provide you with any necessary lodging and food, and pay for your funeral, if need be. In some cities and towns, a guildhall offers a central place to meet other members of your profession.

Guilds often wield tremendous political power. If you are accused of a crime, your guild will support you, if a good case can be made for your innocence, or if the crime is justifiable. You can also gain access to powerful political figures through the guild, assuming you are a member in good standing. Such connections might require the donation of money or magic items to the guild’s coffers.

You must pay dues of 5 gp per month to the guild. If you miss payments, you must make up back dues to remain in the guild’s good graces.
