Spiders of Splet

The Spiders control the lands of Splet. The octopus control the shallow seas around it. 

Physical Description

The spiders come is a few varieties that modify some of the basics of the description. They are eight legged creatures. The legs support a body that is about two feet in diameter. A head with multiple eyes sits on top of that body. The front half of their legs can grasp and use tools. 

History

The Spider society was part of an experiment that when wrong during the collapse of the empire. It was intended as a primate uplift program to test creating races to prep planets for human occupation. During the collapse of the empire the group of modified primate were burned up in space. The virus that modifies DNA survived and made its way to the paserve that is Splet.  That virus did it job but almost at random as it attached to insects and let spiders come to the most sentient race. They control ants, beetles, and aphids, for food, labor and production. 

Society

They mostly structure themselves in what they call Peer Houses. This is very much a house or clan type structure. Better/bigger Peer Houses have more resources and freedoms across Spider society. Houseless spiders live in a rough lands at the very bottom of the cities. This is usually in dangerous places at the bases of the trees. 

Male spiders are still struggling for some sense of equality. Most cities have made it illegal to kill males. In the peerless area males are killed often. Although illegal, it is often not investigated in anyway. In one city, Seven Trees, Males can own and run Peer Houses. They is a new freedom that is slowly growing in support.  

Personality

Spider Traits

• Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
• Age. They become adult much faster than human, bacoming a full adult in 4 years. They live a shorter life in general dieing in their 50's. 
• Size. Small
• Speed. Your base walking speed is 15 ft. and a climb 15 ft. 
• Natural Armor: You have rigid chitinous armor. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Constitution modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
• Natural Weapons: You gain a pincher or manacle attack. This is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. Your rake attack deals 1 + your Strength modifier piercing damage.
• Languages. Spiders speak a language of foot stomps and gestures. They can not really hear, so hearing common is difficult. 
• Subrace. There are many varieties of spider. Some of of the more common are listed below.
