Story in the Tribe
Pakku is a hunter. After Joe, he might be the last of the tribal hunters. He specialized in hunter right around dawn and dusk. He has never been a big or important part of the tribe. He wants to do his job and move on.
Back in the Dust:
Pakku laid in the sand peering over a sand dune. The sun was starting to set. He placed himself so the sun was at his back. He was nearly invisible to the patch of grasses in the ancient riverbed below. He laid there motionless, waiting for the Inix to arrive. Hunting was a waiting in the desert.
The Inix wondered into the patch of grasses. A family of five moved in. Pakku wanted them all for the tribe, but he was a hunter and hunters know they must leave most for later. He could have killed them all. He clicked his crossbow. The bolt moved down the shaft of it and found a new home in the neck of one the Inix. Pakku waited, letting the other four run off. He only wanted the one.
He picked up the Inix and carried it over to the other hunters. They all worked together to prepare it for the tribe. This was a good kill.
