Session 58

Session Log
December 7, 2022

The portal's light fluctuates as a figure becomes more distinct at it's centre. A tall humanoid steps through wearing chainmail armour and green robes. The individual has long, light brown hair and pointed ears. An Elf paladin, wielding a warhammer and shield, he has a large book hanging from a chain on his belt and his expression quickly changes as the sounds of battle become clear to him. The light fades behind him and the elf Amarion, charges forward.

The paladin immediately utters a prayer under his breath as blue energy surrounds his warhammer. The weapon strikes and a thunderous boom fills the air as he sends Gruvteth flying into Crom, the pair collide against the summoned stone wall in a tangled grapple.

The shaman Blood-Soil, reaches out and summons forth roots from the ground that once again stab and constrict Edward. Edward tears himself free as he gets closer to Mornington but lines himself up to unleash further eldritch blasts where the trees do not impede his sight. They strike the shaman and a goat-like bellow erupts from his snout.

Mornington is caught in a melee with Gut-Rend still, and the onslaught continues. Mornington takes some severe hits and is looking worse for wares against this fearsome enemy. Crom and Gruvteth grapple, struggling with each other as the odd strike slips through, witling each other down. Skull-Crush charges headlong into Amarion, his horns lowered to pierce him, shoving him back. He follows up with a strike from his empowered axe and wounds Amarion. Amarion however, strikes back just as fiercely.

Edward and Mornington are stood practically side by side, their enemies closing in on opposite sides. Edward continues dishing out offensive spells at the shaman to varying degrees of success. Mornington slashes forth with his coral scimitar but the reply is too strong, several axe wounds are suffered and his blood licks the ground, he falls unconscious and hits the forests floor. Gut-Rend looms over him.

Edward shouts out for Crom, warning him that Mornington has fallen. Crom, still enthralled in rage, breaks out of the grapple with Gruvteth and turns heel to run. Gruvteth attempts to swing at him, but is too slow to catch the barbarian. Crom's eyes shimmer a bright yellow, that of an eagles, and he vaults the wall that separates him from his companions. He lands heavy footed on the other side and runs up to Gut-Rends back, slashing frantically at him, drawing both blood and his attention with ease.

Amarion is now alone on the wrong side of the wall, facing two enemies, Gruvteth and Skull-Crush. Studying his opponents he can see that Skull-Crush is far more injured so focuses on him. After landing two mighty blows the end of his warhammer is, quite fittingly, wedged into the skull of Skull-Crush. The melee continues, Gruvteth furiously fighting as more strikes are exchanged. Amarion can hear the commotion from the others so unleashes a burst of bluish energy as another thunder crack is heard and the Beastfolk is thrown to the floor, skidding along the mud.

The shaman makes the earth tremor once more concentrated on Crom and Gut-Rend, the earth cracks, shakes and shifts, but the two combatants keep their footing. Mornington however, is still caught in this area and his limp body is thrown around as his life starts to slip away, he sees a bright light and two figures beckoning him forth. Blood-Soil then changes his tactics and charges forward into close quarters with Edward, wielding his staff as a two handed club.

Edward commands his Familiar Artax to swoop down atop Mornington. Once in place, he uses his powers to spare the dying, and Mornington is stable. Blood-Soil sees an opening while he is distracted and strikes Edward with his staff.

Crom gouges out a wound on Gut-Rend's thigh and the beastfolk throws its head back in pain. He steadies his footing and then whips his axe across with all his strength, Gut-Rend's head comes clean off, sailing through the air before leaving splattered blood stains as it bounces and rolls across the clearing.

Amarion free from Gruvteth's reach runs the long way around the wall to try and join the others, but Gruvteth is soon on his feet and making chase. As he comes within striking distance he is not only fighting a paladin, but the barbarian as well. Several blows pulverize his body before Amarion strikes him in the jaw and the warband leaders neck snaps with blood curdling crunch.

Blood-Soil flees from Edward and the others, and disappears into the dark forest beyond. The clearing, in the aftermath of battle, grows quiet. Edward rushes to Mornington's side and feeds him a potion, healing him and bringing him to consciousness.

The party, wholly confused over what just occurred, all turn to the elf in their midst, and have many questions to be answered.
