History of Seasons

Once the proud delve of the shield dwarf clans, today the halls beneath the Cambro Mountains lie abandoned, the stout folk driven from these lands decades past by fomorians and their spriggan armies. Nestled among the jutting peaks of Cambro, north of the Cambrent Gap, lie hidden aeries of winged elves—the avariel. Here the aril-tel'quessir profess a deep devotion to the ancient archfey Aurilandür.

Fleeing the destruction of the island kingdom of Tintageer on their home world of Faerie, a small circle of gold elves led by the young prince Durothil cast a divination to find their new home - on the world of Toril - and then create a portal leading there. The refugees name their new home Faerun, the One Land, and the name of Merrourboros fades into history. Integrating into the native green elf communities, the descendants of the gold elves of Tintageer become known as sun elves, while the descendants of the sole silver elf refugee, Sharlario Moonflower, become known as moon elves. By the end of the first millennium since their arrival, the moon and gold elves had built great cities that rival ancient Atorrnash.

Continuing their work to undermine dragon rule, the Fey open new gates allowing the first elves to immigrate to Toril. These primitive green elves worship the Faerie gods (not the Seldarine, which were unknown at this time). Although most green elves are content to remain in small scattered tribes, one group known as the Ilythiiri negotiates with the dragons and begins to carve out a small kingdom in the south. The great Ilythiiri capital at Atorrnash remains a shining beacon of elf culture for millennia.

The otherworldly realm of Faerie is ruled by the fey (creators of korreds, sprites, and pixies).  The fey continue to rule to the present day.

The church of Auril begins operating openly in and around Bremen.

Hedrun Arnsfirth the Ice Witch gains the loyalty of the Reghedmen Tribe of the Bear. They establish a camp around the dead white dragon, Ingeloakastimizilian's lair in Evermelt.

After accidentally killing her lover, Hedrun Arnsfirth is banished from the Tribe of the Elk, but soon discovers that she is the Chosen of Auril.

Demetrios Whitefire of Sossal, High Chillbringer of Auril, pens the Icedawn Syllabus.

Auril sends her vassals to battle the genies and efreets of Calimshan. As a result, the desert of the Skyfire Wastes was frozen over for months

Shiverpine Forest

The lush, verdant, snow-capped woodlands of the Shiverpine Forest exhibit the essence of a winter wonderland. Here Auril’s fury is less severe, which permits all manner of woodland creatures to inhabit this primeval pine forest.

Creirwy Glade

Fey of the Shiverpine Forest revere Auril as the Queen of Air and Darkness, a malevolent faerie goddess banished from the Feywild at the dawn of time after a failed coup against the Seelie Court. A dark moonwell centered in Creirwy Glade is rumored to be a ley crossroad to the Feywild. The gate is guarded fiercely by spriggans in service to the Goblin King. Most outsiders that stumble upon Creirwy Glade are never seen again.

Auril's Winter Hall assimilates the Winged Mother's floating palace.

Melvaunt experiences extremely cold weather in direct contrast to the warm spring in neighboring Thentia. The machinations of Auril are suspected even though her worship is taboo in the city.

Auril stalks the Great Glacier during the Time of Troubles.

The Ice Queen's Winter descends on Myth Ondath. Led by the lich Vrandak the Burnished, the besieging army of Iyraclea the Ice Queen is accompanied by winter storms raised by her magic, that claw Myth Ondath all year long. This attack spreads awareness of Iyraclea's might across the Realms, and makes her claim of being the preeminent cleric of Auril in all of Faerun fact rather than mere hollow boast. The Frostmaiden empowerers Iyraclea with new and mightier cold magics, and the Great Glacier under which she dwells begins to expand.

A group of Harpers infiltrate Hellgate Keep using cloaking magic and reveal that Tanta Hagara is actually an annis hag. This revelation does not hamper the Blue Bear's respect for their chieftain. Hellgate Keep begins attacking caravans en route to Sundabar, and a few expeditionary forces of demons (tanar'ri) are sent to harass the Citadel of the Mists, Sundabar, and Silverymoon.

Alustriel is able to defend Silverymoon with her magic, and the Gem of the North suffers no damage. Similarly, the Mistmaster of the Citadel of the Mist defends his home (with the help of treants of the High Forest). Sundabar however suffers greatly as the fiends break through the walls and ravaged though the city streets. Helm Dwarfriend leads a large contingent of the city guard to drive the fiends from Sundabar. They are successful, but the fiends leave the city burning. The city is extinguished in two days and repairs begin.

In mid Eleasias, Turlang, lord of the treants of the High Forest begins actively defending the Citadel of the Mist. Tanta sends her forces of fiends and Blue Bear barbarians to attack the Citadel of the Mist. At the same time, the Mistmaster sends two Harpers, the bard Cryshana Fireglen and a priest of Mystra known as Spellviper. They carry with them two pieces of the Gatekeeper's Crystal artifact. The two Harpers volunteers for the suicide mission, and when the Mistmaster activated the artifact, a blazing beam of purple energy illuminated the skies over the keep, the magical wards surrounding Hellgate Keep to collapse and destroy everything in the area, including Tantra Hagara and the Blue Bear Uthgardt tribe. This also frees the surviving daemonfey of House Dlardrageth from their millennia imprisonment, including Sarya Dlardrageth.

The attacking force from Hellgate Keep, unsure of what happened or what to do next, are attacked by treants, and fae (korred, centaurs, satyrs, dryads). While the forces of Hellgate Keep were defeated, Fauarel Blackhammer, the lord protector of Triboar falls in battle.

The Blue Bear Uthgardt tribe, led by the Annis Hag Tanta Hagara, conquers the fiendridden fortress of Hellgate Keep, and Tanta becomes its new ruler. It is suspected that Tanta had already gained allies in the keep before she had invaded.

The Silver Supplicant (an artifact of Auril) is seen in Waterdeep in the possession of a mysterious female human figure who strides through the City of the Dead in the summer of this year.

An unknown individual begins selling forgeries of the Silver Supplicant, (an artifact of Auril) in markets all over Faerun in the summer. The fakes had no magical power, (other than being magically cold to the touch and everbright).

Aurilians all over Faerun are excited to find the lost Supplicant, only to be confused and angered at being fooled. All of the fake Supplicants are gathered together, (except for one which was destroyed in a rage by High Coldmistress Kauthreene Ambeiryn of Frostspire Towers in Mirabar), 14 in all. They are all subjected to various divination spells. The spells reveal that the crafter is a human male wizard who did his work in a vast cavern or cave network, and faked his appearance to appear as an illithid.

The Company of Korsus catches up with Shalara of the Seven Kisses, (a priestess of Auril and bearer of the Silver Supplicant, an artifact of Auril) while the Aurilians were already engaged with the Thirsty Arrows Company. Shalara and all the Aurilians are slain, and one of the the two half elf sisters of the Thirsty Arrows claims the Supplicant and takes it back to Baldur's Gate.

There the recovering adventurers soon discover that local Aurilian clergy had traced them. No less than seven armed raids are made on the walled "high house" that the Thirsty Arrow used as a base. In the end, the Aurilians succeeded in setting fire to the villa and the conflagration revealed a secret way down into the vaults that avoided the heavily trapped tunnels. The fleeing Thirsty Arrows place the Supplicant into the carrying compartment in the chest of a guardian golem (either an iron golem or a unique metal guardian) and commanded it to attack the intruders.

The golem wrought bloody mayhem among the Aurilians, and dawn saw it standing alone amid a pile of dead. It is a month or more before other Aurilians arrive, but the golem and the Supplicant are gone.

Shalara of the Seven Kisses (and bearer of the Silver Supplicant, an artifact of Auril) and her band slays the legendary Korsus Smokebeard of the Company of Korsus.

The priestess of Auril, Shalara of the Seven Kisses is known to be in possession of The Silver Supplicant (an artifact of Auril, a statuette in the likeness of the "First Frostmaiden", Thaulatiiya). "Coldeyes", as some call Shalara, carries it about as she travels the western Heartlands. Shalara acts as a warden of the faith in the lands around Iriaebor and Scornubel, visiting shrines, hermitages, and mountain-cavern temples in rotation, to advise and direct both clergy and lay worshippers. She meted out "the discipline of the divine" against faithful who transgressed, and is widely feared among them, but she also avenges wrongs done to the faithful by those outside the faith. To carry out such work, Shalara leads a force of three priests, a mageling, and a half-dozen warrors, (all skilled horse archers with arrows of cold). She employs the Supplicant both as a source of spells for herself and as a holy relic to awe and inspire the faithful.

Thaulatiiya of Calimport, head of the church of Auril, disappears without a trace. In honor of her memory, the Silver Supplicant is created.

Thaulatiiya, "First Frostmaiden", after rising to the pinnacle of Auril's faith vanishes, (gathered to the goddess as some claim, or slain by ambitious underlings as the rumors persist).

Auril's faith is first introduced to Calimport by Thaulatiiya, First Frostmaiden of the Chill Goddess. In Calimport, Auril is known as a kindly but strict goddess (as one who brings cooling to a hot environment). Thaulatiiya becomes well known for winning a few well-publicized duels against foes of other faiths, and selling "windstones", (enchanted hand-sized rocks that radiated magical cold for a tenday).
