The duergar, also known as gray dwarves, are believed to have originated from a group of dwarves who delved too deep into the earth and uncovered a powerful artifact that warped their minds and turned their skin a deep shade of gray. This artifact was said to be cursed by the Illithids, causing the dwarves to become reclusive, paranoid, and eventually transformed them into the dark beings they are now known as. The duergar are known for their skills in crafting and mining, but also for their cruel and cunning nature. They are often feared and avoided by other races due to their propensity for slaving and their willingness to work with the Hollowed Depths more dangerous denizens.
