Once the merchant heart of the city, it is slowly rebuilding
itself back to its former glory. The eastern part of the district
is still controlled by orcs of the Many-Arrows tribe, although
tensions have been increasing of late.
After the Spellplague, the orcs moved into the Cloak Tower
along the eastern wall. Eventually they moved west until they
controlled a whole swath from the eastern wall to the Fallen
Tower. Since the rebirth of the city, Nevermember has not
forced the issue of ownership with the orcs, in part out of
respect for the years of peace that was maintained, and in
part because he simply didn't have the troops to deal with
them. Times however, are changing.
Recent reports have been received talking about scouting
and raiding parties belonging to the Many-Arrows in the
countryside, some as close as the Triboar trail. While the orc
leader Vansi denies these allegations, but continued reports,
as well as rumors of the Many-Arrows allegiance to a warlord
in the north have led to an increased call for Nevermember to
throw the orcs out, but force if needed. Given the increase in
the size and training of the militia, as well as the increased
numbers of adventurers passing through, it has become
harder for Nevermember to resist these calls.
In 1479 DR, a group of adventurers seeking the Shards of Selûne raided the Shard of Night, defeating the guards there and allowing Lady Jasmine and other selûnite priests to recover the tower. The Shard of Night was later purified, reconsecrated to Selûne by using the power of the Shards, and became a beacon of hope in Neverwinter. The Neverwintans began to call it "the Shard of the Moon" afterwards.[2]
