⛪ The Ashen Bishopry of Aenodel
Status: Ruined, desecrated holy site
Former Population: ~1,200 clergy, acolytes, and townsfolk
Current Inhabitants: Scavengers, bandits, restless spirits
📍 Geography & Setting
The bishopry once stood as the spiritual heart of Aenodel, a great stone complex perched atop a windswept hill, overlooking fertile fields and winding roads. Its soaring spires of pale limestone once gleamed like beacons to pilgrims crossing the realm.
Now, those same towers stand blackened, shattered by fire and looting. Charred timbers and collapsed roofs scar the skyline, while hollow windows gape like broken eyes. Around the bishopry, the Bishop’s Quarter lies equally ruined — cottages, workshops, and chapels pillaged, their remains scattered among overgrown cobblestone streets.
🕯 History & Fall
The bishopry was dedicated to The Radiant Hand, Aenodel’s most revered deity of light, law, and divine justice. For centuries, bishops and priests ruled from here, guiding both faith and politics.
But during the War of Thorns, the bishopry was sacked. Raiders scaled its walls, slaughtered clergy, and desecrated its relics. Holy texts were burned in the plaza, chalices melted for coin, and the bones of saints were scattered. The central cathedral was left a husk, its once-golden altar stolen, its great bell silenced forever.
