🌲 The Kingdom of Piefl – The Woodland Crown
Capital: Zunos (fortress-city of the woods)
Ruler: King Therrin Vaelthorn (styled The Verdant Lord)
Population: ~140,000
Culture: Woodland, fiercely independent, honor-bound
Dominant Races: Humans (majority), elves, half-elves, forest gnomes
📍 Geography & Setting
Piefl lies deep within the Emerald Canopy, an ancient forest where towering oaks, maples, and shadowed pines make travel treacherous. Rivers cut winding paths through the woods, and mist often cloaks the ground in the mornings.
Its capital, Zunos, is built in a forest clearing on the confluence of two rivers. The city is fortified with high wooden and stone walls entwined with ivy and reinforced by living trees that have been shaped to serve as towers and gates. From above, Zunos looks like a green jewel in the canopy, blending seamlessly with the wilderness around it.
⚒ History & Origins
Once part of the Kingdom of Danusia, Piefl declared independence generations ago after years of over-taxation and neglect. This secession sparked the Splintered Bough Conflict, a civil war with Kaphere, another forest province that remained loyal to Danusia.
The capital of Zunos became the seat of rebellion, where Piefl’s lords declared their independence and raised the Verdant Banner for the first time. Its walls have stood through siege after siege, earning it a reputation as the “Unfallen City.”
