The Baroness rules her lands with a lighter touch than her religious neighbours in Twain and Forrand. Trem does however have its own traditions and beliefs that many passionately embrace. The lands of the Houses in the Barony are marked by wavy brick walls. The curious shape is down to the fact that it takes fewer bricks to build them than it would have done to build a straight wall. A straight wall needs at least two layers of bricks to make is sturdy, but the wavy wall is fine thanks to the arch support provided by the waves. As the walls are symbolic rather than for Défense they don’t need to be high or thick. Man could easily clamber over one. The wavy boundary walls are a testament to the stability of the Barony of Trem having remained in the same place since their ancestors laid those bricks. The Trem are proud of their long history and traditions.
The House has a motto ‘courage, honour, and service’ they follow a code of chivalry called Fedean. Written Fedean Manuals are common family heirlooms.
The idea of the Fedean encompasses the martial arts and their relevant virtues as well as manners and social decorum. The manuals focus on the action-packed adventures of the Knights of Trem in a past golden age.
They use these stories to teach the code of the Fedean including care of the giant hounds they ride and how to order a pack of warriors riding these loyal steeds and rules for the seating order at banquets.
One of the stranger customs practiced by those following the tenant of the Fedean is divorce by combat. While trial by combat is common among other houses, divorce by combat is only practiced only in Barony of Trem. In recognition of their superior physical strength men must fight in this deadly duel with one armed tied behind their back. The Fedean also encourages some behaviour others might see as reckless, for example manuals encourage would be warriors of Trem to prove their bravery by jumping off the cliffs of Silent Bay.
Their banner is the picture of a knife cutting a hand in preparation for a blood oath - a very honourable thing encouraged by the Fedean.
