The House of Lock have sworn loyalty to the House of Trem until the sun disappears from the sky. This ancient bond has seen the the Houses fight side by side against the north and especially the House of Sleth, the old enemy of the Kingdom. The Lock get their name from the fact that a king of the distant past Limeto Carnold once said that the family was the lock on the gate that kept the north out of the king's lands. Their citadel at Sutran was a well defended military fortress that saw off sieges and harsh winters for many ages. Today it acts as a research centre studying the regions plants.
The rangers of the House are still officially a military unit but in reality they are now dedicated to their mission of studying the flora of the woods. They also research how to make useful medicines and poisons out of these plants and fungi. They extract oils, create balms and bandages. They are still experts in the martial arts and any force going up against them on their home turf they know so well would have a significant disadvantage.
Those rangers studying the most dangerous carnivorous and poisonous plants wear full armour and a helmet respirator. They are the most experienced and respected of the rangers and the outfit is a clear indication of the status of an individual from Lock.
The rangers of Lock are famous for using their sling shot guns to sing through the woods from tree to tree on a retracting and propelling hook attached to a wire. They can sling at great speed and have taken many bandits and poachers by surprise from above. They can move at great heights and speeds through their woodland in this manner.
While the rangers are the Houses main military unit it also has a number of knights who ride the giant hounds favoured by other woodland houses.
