The coastline ruled over by Deton is so cold even travel by Giant Wooly Rhino is impossible. The Deton therefore employ special snow machines which they run using various oil wells that are scattered over their land.
These are mechanical wonders considering they were made and designed by scientists of these houses that did not have the resources or the guidance of officers from The Society of the Bond.
They provide this oil to the other House's in the Barony. This has caused a great deal of tension with the southern Houses who see the use of oil as an affront and an insult to The Society of the Bond. Religious radicals from House of Twain, who take the idea of the Bond to its extremes, have recently mounted a terror campaign blowing up some of the oil wells and fighting with the warriors of the House.
Twain claims that these attacks aren't officially sanctioned by them but they also fail to condemn them entirely seeing them as an inevitable outcome given the House's outrageous use of oil. For them endangering the natural balance could cause such extreme consequences for the planet once more that a few deaths to prevent it seem almost justifiable.
As a result of the attacks the House is focused on rearming and creating more patrols, warriors and vehicles for them to ride, which in turn has caused a boom in the need for oil and production is at an all time high, ironic given the extremists goals.
