The towering citadel is a remnant of when the House of Welham was a major House ruling over its own Barony. Those days have long passed and today the House must serve the interests of the new ruler of the principality of which it is now part Prince Kant Carnhold. Kant is not popular and treats any local disquiet with brutal violence and oppression. The Wellham have had there second citadel turned by him into a vast prison in which he can house his political enemies without turning them into martyrs through execution. The highest floors of the citadel have been converted into rows of cells.
The Knights of Frontguard run the prison guards. They are known to be fair but severe. They carry serrated double-handed swords that create wounds that are hard to sew back together.
