The Kings Batton is the largest building in The Kingdom, the Royal Palace sit on top of it like an old fashioned castle on the crest of a mountain. The Batton is dedicated to the administration of the Kingdom, it is the site of important meetings of state and oversees the management of the citadel more broadly. The palace on top is entirely dedicated to the king's pleasure.
The upper floors contain the King's Council Chamber. There the king sits upon his throne and issues proclamations to his council of advisors. The throne itself is ancient and was moved piece by piece from its original site, a small building that once stood where the King's Batton now stands. Whoever sits upon this throne, rules The Kingdom.
The higher levels are the site of the Trunk station. The Trunk is the name given to the massive skyway that connects the King's Batton with The Stranger's Tower. Inside the skyway are train lines, walkways and even shops and stalls to provide food and goods to the commuters going between the two vast buildings.

A vast red staircase of solid rock must be climbed by visitors wishing to scale the windswept heights to the Royal Palace. Despite its ancient design, the palace, which stands at the pinnacle of the King's Batton building, is said to be filled with technological wonders designed to amuse and entertain his majesty. Few ever get to glimpse the interior and rumours run rampant about the opulence and debauchery on display within its sand coloured walls. It is said to house an army of courtesans and performers. Even with all this at his disposal the king still prefers to spend his time at Mountpeak far from the concerns of the capital and its political infighting, only coming to the palace when duty makes it unavoidable.
The Royal Palace and the upper floors of the King's Batton are heavily protected by the Royal Guard. Their thick swords and red armour can be seen everywhere like blood stains dripping off the walls of the citadel. The armour is engineered to allow them to weild their huge blades. The guard have their headquarters in Mountpeak, the king considers it best to keep them away from the intrigue of the capital in order to lessen the chances of corruption and keep exclusive control over his personal protectors. They are well paid and heavily rewarded for their service for the same reasons.
