Our adventure begins in the Gray Beyond tavern, where our heroes find themselves seated together. Glayder is drinking herself into a stupor again, Isabelle is working on top secret Vadalis things, Jinx is sorting through medical records for the Jorasco outstation she's setting up, Khetari enjoys some tea and reads a book, and Elloven takes in the unfamiliar atmosphere over a glass of ale. As the five talk and get acquainted, a hush suddenly falls over the tavern, and a nearby patron warns them: "Sh. Brackle's gonna talk."
A gnome in torn overalls climbs onto a table and begins spouting nonsense. "The three great wyrms were always at war. They warred in the beginning, when they made the world, and they’ll war over it again at the end. Siberys, source of magic, was shattered into the sky. Khyber, master of secrets, was imprisoned under the earth, and Eberron, creator of life, now reigns over the world. But all will change soon. The prophecy they warred over was written in the bones of the earth and the flesh of our people. And its words shall guide us to the end!"
As soon as he leaves, a murmur runs through the taproom as everyone tries to make sense of... that. Before anyone can really speculate too much, Aliza enters, fresh out of the Mournland on her latest salvage mission. She's surprised to find so many of her mutual friends here at once, and recommends they form a salvage crew together to earn some cash. Looking at the board in the tavern, there are three postings up: a missing scout, a stolen Silver Flame relic, and a mysterious "no questions asked cash job".
The others persuade Glayder to stop being pessimistic and take the scout job first. They speak to Belaluur, a shrewd goblin broker in the Salvage Market, who informs them that her daughter Garundah went missing in the Mournland recently. She was following the old lightning rail tracks to search for parts for her dog construct, and has a tattoo saying "Bravery against Danger" in Goblin. With this in mind, they set out into the eerie wall of fog marking the edge of the Grey.
After walking in circles for a bit and being very unsettled, they finally find the rail tracks, along with the burned and smashed corpse of a human salvager. Glayder determines that the dead body was electrocuted and hit with a severe bludgeoning force, but before she can relay this, the nearby conductor stones spark and coalesce into a pair of crystal lizards. After a brief fight, where Isabelle and Glayder both get cronched, they continue on.
A little while ahead, a spectral train appears on the tracks and Glayder catches a glimpse of one of the passengers, which seems to spook her a little. It moves rapidly down the line towards an oddly shaped stone ball, and a metal dog growls at the party as if defending said ball. Isabelle and Jinx work together to calm down the construct, and Glayder moves the ball -- actually the petrified body of Garundah -- off the tracks. Once her petrification wears off, she embarrassedly mentions that she ran afoul of some cockatrices, and the party escorts her home to her elated mother.
They call it for the night, then plan to take the Silver Flame job the next morning. After meeting with Mother Jahannah, they learn that the Arrow of Truth, a relic straight from Flamekeep, was stolen by what she assumes to be a changeling thief -- one of her acolytes was left unattended in the chapel while the relic was stolen, yet she saw him in the market buying groceries at the same time. She mentions that the suspect was seen entering Zodor Tarev's office, still in the guise of a priest. Isabelle almost accuses her of racism against shifters, but that's cleared up fast.
Heading to Tarev's office, Jinx briefly contemplates burning the place to the ground, but decides against it. They see the cat shifter chilling behind his counter, a little on edge at the sight of not one but two Flamists, but Jinx is able to persuade him that she's not "one of those zealots". He tells her that the changeling thief in question -- Whist -- tried to sell him the stolen arrow, but being an honest businessman, he refused. Her crew is probably somewhere in the Mournland, and he gives the group directions and a very well-drawn map.
They venture forth into the mist again and find said salvage crew, bound together in a grotesque body-sculpture resembling a scorpion, with the arrow at its stinger. In order to get any closer, they have to fight their way through a group of dolgrims, which Elloven and Glayder dispatch in less than six seconds. After untying Whist, she confesses to the crime and promises to turn herself in. Elloven nearly contemplates cutting her hands off for her crime, but Jinx and Khetari offer her a second chance in the Flame's light. Mother Jahannah seems okay with this and offers to train Whist in the ways of a true cleric.
After another night's rest, they wake up right before dawn and head out to the scrapyard to ring the bell, anticipating "danger" and a "no questions asked cash job". They're met by Evanazer, an assistant of Irullan Karnach, a notable salvage broker. Irullan has bought the salvage rights to Big Moe, a warforged colossus in the scrapyard, and has noticed a tunnel under it that she'd like someone to investigate. Evanazer claims to be offering this job himself because she is busy with other work.
The squad continues down said tunnel, which ends in a door that Isabelle is able to pick open. Heading in, they find several piles of human corpses covered in embalming fluid, and a few Emerald Claw agents ducked behind them, prepared for an ambush. All of them are killed after a rough fight, involving a few of said piles being set on fire, and Glayder displaying the power of her aberrant dragonmark. However, only Jinx recognises it for what it is, but chooses to keep this information to herself for now. In the next room, they find a similar scene: a robed man screwing plates on another dead body, while a few guards watch over him. They die protecting the robe guy, who is knocked out and dragged back out for interrogation.
Once they emerge from the tunnel, they find Evanazer dead, and a human and fox shifter crouching behind a junk pile nearby, with bows trained on them. Isabelle casts Sanctuary on the human, convincing him to stand down, and the shifter follows suit as well. Just as they're about to interrogate the two, Sheriff arrives on the scene and offers to take them, as well as the unconscious Emerald Claw man, in for questioning.
As they tell Irullan the news of Evanazer's death, Jinx and Isabelle clue in that the salvage broker knows more than she's letting on. They head back to the tavern to relax and unwind, to hearty congratulations from Aliza, until the next salvage posting arrives...
