Brendan O'Connell

Sergeant
Character

Early Life

Brendan was always one that was more happier and outgoing in his early life, a person who was sporty and one that loved to get into the thick of things. He enjoyed playing for his local GAA team, playing both gaelic football and hurling at the club and having an affinity for being a team player and the sport as well. However when out with his sister, an event that changed him even to present day occurred resulting in her kidnapping in front of him. It tore at him, not being able to protect her. This event changed him becoming more reclusive and made him stop playing sports for a while not being able to focus on the game that he enjoyed. It resulted in him becoming more of reclusive person that only focused on work and was very hard to coax out of his shell. Eventually, given time with a school councillor and therapist, he returned to a more normal self, returning to sports but only focusing on the hurling rather than both sports. Yet even after all this, Brendan still harbours some remorse for that time and when it came for him to go to college, he decided against it and went to be a police cadet instead, wanting to protect the people that couldn't protect themselves.

Police Academy and Patrol

Time at the police academy was a blur for Brendan, given his depressed mental state and the fact that his focus was on completing this to the best of his ability, rather than worrying about the memories of the academy. He passed with flying colours and was taken under the wing of a detective named Natalia O'Quinn. Natalia was one of the few people he trusted at the force as he could clearly see the blatant disregard for the motto's off the force, taking bribes, looking the other way or even supplying the gangs with weapons or that is what he assumed given that the same weapons that were taken into custody were always back out on the field. However he and Natalia were ones that seemed to be above that, and would work and do anything that they could to bring the criminals down. However Brendan was betrayed by the one that he thought would have his back and was thrown under the bus for Natalia's mistake and realised that she was no better than any of them on the force. He was let go, honourably to his luck and was forced to look for a new position at 25.

Irish army to Present Day

Given his experience with the police and knowing the good reputation of the units, he enlisted in the Irish army, serving with the peace corps, however, he trained as a ranger specialising in long range, seemingly having an affinity to it. Given his status as a former police cadet and officer, he was immediately given the rank of Corporal, and was sent over to help the peace corps giving support from a distance in case something went wrong. Over the next 6 years he completed 3 2 year tours with the peace corps, going up the ranks of the Irish army eventually reaching Sergeant Major and was offered a Officer position at the rank of Commandant for his service during the last 6 years and would oversee the running of a peace corps base that has ties with the Irish army as a training base.
