To provide equivalent exchanges in commerce, an early galactic government instituted the Credit as its primary currency and physical symbol of material wealth. Its use was so ubiquitous later governments continued to use this currency system.

In its early years, the Credit was minted from chunks of asteroid metal in the form of small bars and coins. Nowadays, most folk use technomantic rings called cred band to display their Credits thanks to their reliability and ease of use, as data stored in the Current is difficult to counterfeit or falsify.

Some societies still require material payment, be it a physical Credit or some form of regional currency. The exchange rates between Credit and another local coin fluctuate based on the planet's ever-changing distances, costs, resource availability, or political status.

In most cases, a Credit is equivalent to a gold piece. Fractions of Credit are commonly used to represent silver and copper pieces.
