The setting presented uses certain terms to describe various aspects of interstellar life. They are listed here for clarity, ease, and reference. Some of these terms may be used interchangeably and synonymously with other terms however you wish.
Blaster. An energy-based weapon that typically fires bolts of superheated plasma. Not to be confused with a laser, which is a ray emitter.
Capital Ship. A starship larger than 1,000 feet. Generally used as flagships or carriers.
Coil Rifle. A heavier version of a coilgun with a longer range.
Coilgun.A weapon that uses a coil of electromagnetically charged wire to launch pieces of ammunition at deadly speeds.
Corvette. A starship smaller than 30 feet. Generally used as a transport or fighter.
Cosmos. The space within the Material Plane and everything within it. Also known as the universe.
Credit.The standard accepted galactic currency.
Cred Band. A small technomantic device that only stores Credits. It can be hacked or "pickpocketed" like a typical wallet.
Cruiser. An all-purpose starship between 30 and 100 feet in size. Has a variety of uses.
Current. See The Current.
Frigate. An all-purpose starship between 100 and 1,000 feet. It is typically stronger than a cruiser.
Holopad. A hand-held technomantic device that combines computing, camera, information storage, analysis, and limited communication capabilities.
Light Year. Defines a length of space that light can travel in a year. This is roughly equivalent to six trillion miles.
Needle. An enormous physical structure that pierces into the Strand and allows for planar travel. It is typically part of a Waypoint.
Railbow. A weapon that uses an electromagnetically charged, rail-based launching mechanism to fire ammunition at deadly speeds, similar to railguns. The term railbow is derived from their early prototypes modeled after crossbows.
Ray Emitter. An energy-based weapon that fires beams of concentrated light such as those from a laser.
Star System. The collection of planets and the star they revolve around.
Starport. A port for starships to dock at, typically on a planet or stellar station. Also known as a spaceport.
Starship. The interstellar vehicles used to travel between planets, star systems, and possibly galaxies. Also known as a spaceship, space craft, or rocketship.
Stellar Station. A permanent artificial dwelling in the cosmic void. It may have some form of movement and can be as large as a small moon. Also known as a space station.
Technomancy. A unique blend of technology and magic that powers computers and software. Characters typically use Intelligence to interact with it.
Technoweaver. A technomancy specialist that magically creates programs or functions. Most technomantic devices require some form of program to operate.
The Current. An ethereal network of magical ley lines that spans the Cosmos. Its transformed power fuels technomancy and facilitates interplanetary travel.
The Galaxy. A common non-descript name for this setting's cluster of star systems, and home to trillions of races. No single race was first to name the galaxy, but you may name your setting if you wish.
The Strand. Also called The Stranded Plane, this planar dimension serves as one of two major methods of interstellar travel. Spatial points in the Strand correspond to the Material Plane, but distances between them are contracted.
The Void. The endless area of cold vacuum beyond the atmosphere. Also known as space or cosmic void.
Voidfarer. A person that travels the Void.
Void Vehicles. A vehicle that primarily travels through the void such as a starship. This is relevant for determining proficiency with piloting such a vehicle.
Waypoint. A stellar station constructed in specific locations where the fabric between the Material and the Strand is thin. These magical constructs allow starships to travel through the Strand across the galaxy to another Waypoint.
