Starship Statistics

Most starships are Huge or Gargantuan, as determined by their length or width, whichever is longer. For example, a corvette that is 10 feet long and 15 feet wide would use the size category that has a 15-foot width, which means it is Huge. Starships in the cruiser or larger category are automatically Gargantuan because they exceed 30 feet in any dimension.

The numbers in parentheses indicate the general dimensions of interior spaces the starship occupies. The ship's full dimensions, including wings and weaponry, may be larger.

On a regular 5-foot square grid or map, a starship occupies square spaces determined by its room layout, similar to a house or dungeon.

On a starship grid that has 100-foot squares, an especially large starship can occupy multiple squares based on its layout. For example, a frigate that is 450 feet long and 200 feet wide occupies ten squares: a 200 by 500-foot space. A starship cannot squeeze into spaces too small to accommodate it.

A starship's armor class is an abstract representation of its combined speed, the durability of hull materials, and maneuverability.

A starship's hit points reflect the amount of damage it can take before becoming wrecked. See Wrecking a Starship in Starship Combat section for more information.

If a starship has a critical threshold, that threshold appears after its hit points. When a starship takes damage equal to or greater than its critical threshold from a single source, the starship is affected by a Critical Effect described in the Starship Combat section.

A ship's speed determines how far it can move each round, measured in increments of 100 feet.

Larger starships often have decreased maneuverability. If a starship has a turning radius, that radius appears after its speed. On each round, a ship can only make one turn with a maximum number of degrees specified. For example, a frigate with a turning radius of 90 degrees can only make up to one 90-degree turn each round when it moves.

A starship has six ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma) and their associated modifier.

A ship's Strength represents its size and power; Dexterity represents its maneuverability; Constitution embodies its durability. Starships with onboard artificial intelligence have an associated Intelligence score. Starships usually have a score of 0 in Wisdom and Charisma, though the rare living starship may have higher scores.

If a ship has a 0 in a score, it automatically fails any ability check or saving throw it makes using that score.

You can treat a starship like the most durable object. They are typically immune to poison, psychic, and necrotic damage, as well as the following conditions: blinded, charmed, deafened, exhausted, frightened, incapacitated, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, prone, stunned, and unconscious.

A starship is proficient with its installed weapons. The proficiency bonus equals the captain's proficiency bonus. If there is no captain, the proficiency bonus is 2.

Unlike typical attacks, you use the starship's ability modifiers when attacking with a starship weapon (instead of your own modifiers). You do not add any modifiers to the damage.
