There are many reasons to design your own starship. A GM may want to prepare a unique encounter or an adventuring party may attempt to build a voidfaring vehicle. This section presents rules for players to design a starship no presented in this compendium.

Build a Starship

Starships can take any imaginable for. Their ultimate size and shape are limited only by their cost. Follow these steps to create your own starship.

Size and Layout

First determine how many 5 ft. x 5 ft. spaces you want your ship to occupy and arrange the spaces in a layout you like. These spaces must connect directly to another space. Work with your GM to determine the feasibility of your design and to ensure the starship fits into the setting. As you add or remove spaces, keep track of the running cost using the Room and Station costs table.

Subdivide these spaces into rooms as you see fit by adding walls between spaces; you can always change the room locations as you can continue building.

Install Stations

Determine which stations you want your ship to have. In addition to a helm and engines, it is advisable to include at least a command station, an energy bay with a weapon, and a shields station. Place each station in a room large enough to hold it. Keep in mind that equipment in each station occupies half of the room.

Calculate Costs

Calculate the total cost of the vehicle so far to confirm you have enough to spend. If the cost is too high, try removing some of the spaces or a station you don't need. Conversely, if you still have Credits left over, you may consider purchasing upgrades for stations or adding extra rooms for storage space.

A 2000 Credit starting pool is appropriate for a party looking to build or purchase a cruiser.

Determine the Statistics

Consult the Custom Starship Statistics table for recommendations when adding statistics to a character's starship. The GM may alter these statistics as required to better reflect a ship's strengths and weaknesses. The Starship Stat Block section has additional information and a sample stat block.

Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution Scores. You can assign a standard array of ability scores to your choice of Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. The array is based on your ship's size and gains a bonus to the score after they have been assigned.

Intelligence Score. Your ship's Intelligence score is determined by its computer, which is 10. If your ship has no computer, the score is 0.

Other Ability Scores. Your vehicle's Wisdom and Charisma scores are 0. With a score of 0, the vehicle automatically fails checks and saving throws made using that ability score.
