A long, long time ago Teyvat was ruled by seven Dragonlords that harnessed all pure, raw elemental power.  They came from another dimension that exists alongside our own known as the "Light Realm" or "Vishap Realm" from which all elemental power is derived. These creatures were unfathomably powerful and adaptable, making them the de facto beings of authority in the world wherever they decided to settle. When humanity evolved, it never stood a chance against their might and thus were forced to live by their draconic whims which were often cruel, selfish, and seemingly arbitrary.

Humanity achieved its first victory when a group of unknown gods from other worlds arrived in Teyvat and waged a 40-year war on the Seven Sovereigns. The Dragonlords lost after a long and grueling battle, retreating into the depths of the world's mountains and oceans to one day be reborn in human forms. One such otherworldly god was known as the "Primordial One" who split themselves into four shades and distributed their power amongst the people, creating various new gods of the renamed "human realm." Humanity entered a golden age of prosperity under their new gods and was happy to worship the gods that loved them.

However, the unknown gods would be challenged yet again by beings from another adjacent realm known as the Void Realm or "The Abyss". Endless Dark powers and energies spilled out from the abyss into the human realm, corrupting nearly everything that came into contact with its concentrated energy. In order to combat this threat, a god called "The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles" opened up seven seats in her realm of Celestia, awarding significant power to the gods who claimed their place. After a long and arduous period of time known as "The Archon War," seven gods of their respective elemental essences finally claimed a seat in Celestia and earned their own domains. They acted as vigilant defenders of their nations against all threats, including ancient gods, abyssal forces, and other nations in order to uphold their chosen "heavenly principle" in the name of Celestia.

Approximately 1,500 years later humanity began to grow arrogant once again, and an infamous alchemist in the godless nation of Khaenri'ah experimented with ancient abyssal knowledge that could be used to create artificial lifeforms. Her meddling with powers she could not control unleashed a scourage of abyssal power upon the world known as The Cataclysm. This weakened the barrier between worlds, inadvertently allowing golden-haired interdimensional travelers to defeat the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles as they passed through this world. Her death resulted in the Archons losing their celestial powers; every Archon perished in the battle of Khaenriah. With all three realms sufficiently weakened, gods and more robust creatures of other realms become rare sights in the world beyond local hilichurl tribes.

Now, nearly 500 years after the cataclysm, the threats of other realms are beginning to return to the realm of humanity. It will be up to the followers of Celestia known as allogenes or "Vision-bearers" to collect the lost gnosis powers of Celestia and restore the power of the unknown gods, lest humanity be destroyed by the elementals or the abyss...
