The Bralm Clan

Clan

The Bralm Clan is an ancient hill dwarf clan that dates back to long before the cataclysm. They mostly live in seclusion as they are the only dwarves that never regained their beards. Most people including other dwarves presume them to be female. They also feel a greater betrayal from the mountain dwarves then most hill dwarves. They have maintained this hatred for generations. They surround their clans with symbols of bees.

The clan has learned to use insects for many things within their homes. Most of their sayings and prayers are about the gifts and connect to the insects around them.  They are experts with raising and breeding insects. They use these specially bred insects for many things. They are strongest with their use of bees and wasps. They use the bees to create honey, mead and wax.  They even breed bees and wasps to do specific tasks, like signaling and alerting the clan.  The clan creates the best mead in all the realm even if no outside the clan has ever had it.

Insect Crafts

Dwarves from this clan have access to special craft skills not open to anyone outside the clan. There are three; Bee Craft, Ant Craft, and Beetle Craft. Most from the clan go into the bee craft, but some go into the other two crafts. No one has ever been able to learn the more than one craft skill.

Bee Crafting

With Bee Craft the user can breed special bees, for making unique honey, mead, and wax. They can also breed bees and wasps that can be used as signals and alerts.

Ant Craft

With Ant craft you can breed unique ants to perform many tasks. Some ants can cut trees or stone. They use pheromones to guide these special ants.

Beetle Craft

With Beetle craft you can breed beetles to craft different components. They are great at making acids and flammable chemicals.

History of the Clan

The Closing of Thorbardin

When the call went out to fall back to the underground kingdom of Thorbardin, Clan Bralm traveled to the great gates. Most of their clan could still not grow beards. only about one in four could grow a beard. Many say that their beards were given to the women of the mountain dwarves. It took the clan mouths of travel to the gate. They had taken their bees, ants, and beetles with them. They waited outside the gate for another month as the decision was made about their fate. Many other clans arrived and entered the gate in that month.

One night a fog rolled in. It felt like the night lasted for days. When the fog rose again, all the of the bearded members were gone. A small group of guards came from the mountain to announce that the unclean (non bearded) dwarves would not be welcome within Thorbardin. They were not real dwarves and had to move on. They have seven days to move on. Knowing the threat not so loosely vailed they moved on. Not knowing where to go they moved into the norther waste to make their home.

This led to a great hatred of all Mountain dwarves. As it turns out this was not even remembered among the dwarves of Thorbardin. The Bralm remember and pass this hatred to ever generation. All dwarves from Clan Bralm go on a walkabout as a reminder of the betrayal. Most come back after about three months. Some never return. This is called a "hill stomp" and defines these dwarves.
