08. Speak of the devil

We left off with the party in peril. Sierra and Narmo triggered a Vampire trap, as two vampire spawn ran towards him. Hoping the handle them alone, that plan quickly fell through and screamed for help. As Kevdormu and Kokmadon ran upstairs to help, Grayson Black made sure that old man Hendrich didn't run away by imprisoning him in a coffin. Then he run upstairs as well.
The battle was hard, as these vampire spawn hit hard and can take a lot of hits. Kokmadon noticed that their wounds heal over time, and decided to use his holy artifact to become a beacon of sunlight. The vampire spawn were noticeably burning. Sierra entangled one of them, catching Narmo in the process. Still her arrows were of great use. While Kevdormu shot blast after blast, Grayson heard some commotion downstairs. He didn't think so much of it at first, but after a few moments, he decided to check it out. There he found another vampire spawn, eating away the head of old man Hendrich. With his trust glowing crossbow, he started to battle it. After some hard fought moments, they defeated the three vampire spawn.
Deciding to bury the body of old man Hendrich, the put him in a coffin and went to the church. Apparently the sermon was on so it was a bit awkward. As Father Lucien approached the party however, The Devil himself appeared and held him by his neck. More vampire spawn appeared, grabbing some of the villagers as well. Strahd Von Zarovich gave a whole speech about the party and how he has kept an eye on us, the whole shtick. Basically the Devil is getting cold feet, and wants to tone us down before we get too stronk. He wants the party to give him the amulet and Ireena. They all are trying not to refuse directly, as they all fear what he'll do to the villagers when they do. But eventually Kokmadon tries to use his holy artifact against them, and shit hits the fan immediately.  
A swarm of bats flies from above towards the party, and all is black for a moment. Grayson takes the Sacred Bones and tries to use its protective properties. He succeeds in a small way. Kokmadon holds the amulet tightly to not lose it to the bats. Kevdormu captures a bat? For which end is still unknown.
As the bats disappear into the evening, many villagers lay on the ground, either wounded or dead. Father Lucien lies on the floor, slashed in the neck by Strahd Von Zarovich. While the guards arrive to check what happened, Grayson finds his way to the crypts to put the Sacred Bones back on their original place. He kneels in front of them and starts praying to Helm, asking to protect this church once more.
Sierra gives a warming speech to the rest of the villagers, speaking about what the Devil has done. SHe urges them to stay safe and stay out of this, but that it is important to help each other in these hard times. When looking over the body of Father Lucien, she notices a letter. Inside rests an invitation to the castle of the Devil. After helping the villagers, telling the guards what has happened and receiving the news that the Baron, aka the mayor of the village, doesn't wanna be bothered by it, the party leaves for the tavern. They wanna talk to Urwin and Ireena about their next move.
