Before the Cataclysm (The Old World) (BC) < 0

  • The Shattering

    0
No one knows how it happened, but after 4761 years of known history, Rhea was torn asunder. Half of the planet literally sheared off, and the portion that survived is the nearly flat plate of the new Rhea. This cataclysmic event has come to be known as The Shattering, and marks the year 0 of a new era for life on Rhea. Much of that recorded history is gone, though fragments do exist and are occasionally discovered.

After the Cataclysm (AC) > 0

  • Legend has it that shortly after The Shattering,  the Khai'an Empire reached unparalleled levels of magical and technological mastery. Arrogant and unchecked, they continued to push the boundaries of what was possible, until catastrophe struck. The Khai'an were almost completely destroyed. Some fortunate few survived the Empire's destruction and their descendants live on to this day, with virtually no knowledge of their culture's ancient achievements.

  • The Cleansing

    729-738

In early history, a violent religious teaching spread across Rhea. The Adherents of Order taught that the world was flat, and always has been. Believing that if order were to be preserved, the Faceless must never be thought of as having made a mistake.

The Adherents attempted to stamp out any piece of evidence that the world was ever a sphere, referring to it as propaganda of the Sphere Heresy. "The Cleansing" was an eight year period of particularly fervent religious enforcement of their teachings.

  • Long ago, the greatest sages are said to have founded an utopia, meant to serve as a place of learning and study; a place where they could focus wholly on their work. They caused a great mass of earth to rise into the sky and built a city upon it. To this day, it remains a visual reminder of the knowledge and mysteries at their command. A celebratory festival is held to honor the day the magnificent city first rose.
