The Githyanki are a race that make The Astral Plane their home, where they are led by their lich queen. Originally slaves to the mindflayer-empire of old, they rose up and destroyed it. However, now that they were free of their oppressor, they decided that due to their victory, everything on the material plane was theirs to take. Since then, when they are not fighting mindflayers or their sibling race the Githzerai, they've been acting as pirates and are undertaking occasional raids to the different worlds of the material plane, taking everything that they can. However, Githyanki-appearances are rare in Sanctospace and Sancstoryl, as a horribly failed raid in ancient times resulted in their queen forbidding them from messing with Sancstoryl, unless it's for the purpose of combating mindflayers. While most Githyanki serve their queen, quite a few of them defected from their empire, for better or for worse. Many of them became pirates in the Astral Sea and in Wildspace.
