Obsidian Lotus - Wondrous Item - Legendary Item / Artifact
A divine artifact of the Illiadian deities of Life and Death, Vith and Prethao. Only a handful of Obsidian Lotuses are said to exist, all located in different worlds. This artifact is a small statuette of an 8-Petaled Illiadian Lotus made of obsidian, each petal representing one charge. The Lotus regains 1 charge every month. You can cast Raise Dead by using two charges and Resurrection by using three charges. This Item can also be used in place of the material components for Revivify, Reincarnate, Raise Dead, Resurrection and True Resurrection. If your DM uses a variant rule that includes a roll to determine the success of a resurrection, the resurrection automatically succeeds. Using the Lotus as a component to resurrect a creature with a spell will turn one of the Obsidian Lotus' petals into white marble, expending one charge of the Obsidian Lotus.
If all 8 charges of the Lotus are expended, the Obsidian Lotus can not be used again until it is recharged by an at least 17th level cleric of either Prethao or Vith, by Prethao or Vith themselves, or until 10 years pass after all charges are expended.
This item can also be used in place of the material components of any other spell in the school of necromancy, without expending a charge. Doing so, however, is considered a misuse of the Obsidian Lotus and may lead to divine retribution if it's used this way in Vith's or Prethao's sphere of divine influence. There also is a 5% chance of the Lotus creating a Shadowspawn instead. The created Shadowspawn is either small, medium or large (determined by the DM), un-awakened, and is hostile to every creature it can see or sense and hungry for life energy. It will attack any creature around it indiscriminately unless it's killed or doesn't sense any creatures to attack.
